Credit card surcharge as per 3 January 2013 also for corporate fares

From the AF KL travel agents news portal:

Quote:

As per 3 January 2013 the credit card surcharge will also be levied for corporate fares (which used to exempt until that date).

Why are KL's "hoge kosten" twice as high for longhaul tickets?

Higher average ticket price?

Of course the fee is ridiculous. KLM has to pay ~2% to have the payment processed, in other words some ~3 euro for an average short haul economy flight. Therefore the fee of 7.50 is much over the top and just another way to cash a few extra bucks. They get away with it cause everybody else does the same.

Let's say KLM does indeed pay 2% to have the payment processed. This means for ICA flights a € 15 fee will cover the costs for tickets <€ 750.

When I book a € 2500 WBC ticket, KLM pays € 50 processing fee, the customer only € 15. The shorthaul customer is paying to much, the longhaul customer should pay more. But who would be willing to pay € 50 processing fee?

The people who insist on using a credit card for these transactions? Now People flying on cheap fares are paying for the miles earnings (through credit card spend) of business class fliers..

The exact fee that KLM pays isn't general public information, but charges are somewhere between 1,5% and 4% (!). For instance AMEX is one of the most expensive cards for a vendor to accept. Therefore the fee can be much higher then would you expect.

Isn't there going to be new legislation in Dutch law in 2013 which will forbid charging any amount for such payment?!
