KLM abandoning MIA, LPL and MXP
From March 25, 2012, KLM will drop three destinations: Miami (MIA), Liverpool (LPL) and Milan/Malpensa (MXP). So no more direct flights.
Passengers holding tickets to MIA for travel after that date are re-booked via Atlanta. Remember, this is one of the routes KLM took over from Martinair. KLM will continue to fly to Milan Linate; people travelling to Liverpool now have to go to Manchester.... KLM is also reducing the number of daily flights to Houston (IAH) from two to one. |

from March 25, 2012, KLM will discontinue its service to Miami. Unfortunately this route has not been profitable, and given the current economic situation we have decided to stop the operation. KLM houdt Miami binnen het jaar voor gezien AMSTELVEEN - KLM houdt het slechts een jaar vol op de directe route naar Miami. De stad in Florida werd in maart van dit jaar aan de dienstregeling toegevoegd, maar eind maart 2012 worden de directe vluchten gestaakt. De lijndienst is niet rendabel en ook de vooruitzichten zijn niet goed, zo bevestigt KLM dinsdag aan Luchtvaartnieuws.nl. Miami wordt nu nog vier keer per week door KLM aangevlogen met een MD-11. KLM pakte de lijndienst naar Miami dit jaar weer op na een afwezigheid van zeven jaar. Niet alleen Miami, maar ook Milaan Malpensa verdwijnt uit de dienstregeling van KLM. Maandag werd al duidelijk dat KLM per eind maart de route naar Liverpool opheft. Volgens een woordvoerder van KLM geldt voor alle drie de lijndiensten dat de klandizie tegenvalt. Daar komt bij dat het bedrijf de routes scherper toetst vanwege de donkere economische wolken aan de horizon. KLM hoopte met Miami zowel zonaanbidders als zakenreizigers aan te trekken. Sinds juni is ook ArkeFly op de route actief, dat zich voornamelijk op vakantiegangers richt. De luchtvaartmaatschappij van TUI Nederland doet Miami aan in combinatie met Orlando. Milaan blijft een bestemming van KLM. De luchtvaartmaatschappij vliegt ook naar Milaan Linate, de tweede luchthaven van de stad in Noord-Italië. Reizigers die een ticket naar een van de drie bestemmingen hebben gekocht, worden door KLM omgeboekt. Wie in de zomerdienstregeling rechtstreeks naar Miami zou vliegen, kan via Atlanta reizen. Passagiers die van plan waren naar Liverpool en Milaan Malpensa te vliegen, kunnen daarvoor in de plaats naar respectievelijk Manchester en Milaan Linate. Passagiers mogen van KLM ook hun geld terugvragen. KLM kondigde dinsdag tevens aan per eind maart het aantal vluchten naar Houston terug te brengen van twee naar één per dag. |

Beëindigen vluchten naar Miami (MIA), Liverpool (LPL) en Milaan/Malpensa (MXP) Met ingang van 25 maart 2012 beëindigt KLM haar directe vluchten naar Miami, Liverpool en Milaan/Malpensa. Voor alle wijzigingen geldt het volgende: • Geboekte passagiers zijn omgeboekt op alternatieve vluchten: 1. Miami: passagiers zijn omgeboekt via Atlanta 2. Liverpool: passagiers zijn omgeboekt naar Manchester 3. Milaan Malpensa: passagiers zijn omgeboekt naar Milaan Linate • Passagiers hebben recht op volledige restitutie • Passagiers die al gedeeltelijk gebruik hebben gemaakt van hun ticket hebben recht op restitutie op basis van half retour Netwerkaanpassing Houston (IAH) Met ingang van 25 maart 2012 past KLM haar schema naar Houston aan van twee naar één vlucht per dag. Passagiers die geboekt staan op de KL667 en/of KL668 zijn omgeboekt op de KL661 en/of KL662 van/naar Houston • Passagiers hebben recht op volledige restitutie • Passagiers die al gedeeltelijk gebruik hebben gemaakt van hun ticket hebben recht op restitutie op basis van half retour |
Bad timing
Dang it, I start a project in Liverpool this year and was looking forward to a much shorter commute from the airport.

Wow, really unfortunate for me and even with the not so great loads I experienced the last few times to MXP, rather surprising to see it dropped.

That's sad. I just flew into LPL on KLM and enjoyed the experience immensely.

It is indeed quite surprising, especially if you think of all the media attention KLM tried to get when they launched the AMS-MIA flight (special flight with DJs, PAX having been "found" through social media etc.).

I don't know if it matters but DL has recently launched a MIA-LHR flight. From a JV standpoint, a TATL flight to/from MIA has been added, so this one has been withdrawn.
(The sad part is that the AMS-MIA route almost always had award availability and it was a good gateway to/from the US, not to mention the potential of a stopover in MIA.@:-)) I'm surprised everyone is re-routed via ATL instead of CDG. :confused: How will this affect the aircraft rotation? |

Friends of mine flying ZRH-AMS-MIA weren't re-routed yet (flying in April). I told them to see AF/KL desk @ ZRH. They managed to get re-routed on AF. Now: how can they get seats on the upper deck of the AF 747?

Interesting move dropping Miami........ hmmm wonder if we will see KLM withdraw from more US markets....

BCN might be reduced as well, as a flight I was booked in May on has seemingly been cancelled and I was rebooked.
