Experience flying out of Doha?
 

Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience with flying out of DOH?

Basically, I'm looking for any information about KLM check-in (is there a priority check-in line?) and about how much time is needed to make my flight.

I have an 11:45pm flight to Amsterdam, finish a job around 8pm and will be able to get the airport by 9:30, 10:00pm at the latest. I'm wondering if 1h45 minutes will be enough to check-in, get through security etc.?

Any advice would be much appreciated...if this isn't enough time, I'm considering changing my flight to the next day.

And, any other information would be great!

Flown the DOH-DMM leg of that route many times on KL. Pretty smooth check in at DOH, as I remember. If anything, if you get there too early (more than 2-2.5 hrs) they aren't ready for you to check in anyway, and then haven't yet opened the gate (there is a holding area at the gate for this flight) once you get through security/immigration. There is a priority check in line but as with most airports in the region that doesn't always mean much.

As for security and immigration, those have been hit and miss for me in DOH. Some nights quite crowded with guest workers headed home or transiting pilgrims.

You'd be taking a risk, but not a huge one.

Late in the evening the airport can become quite crowded as many flights leave. So better don't arrive at the last moment.

1h45 is plenty of time in DOH. You should be fine.

Non-stop to DOH?
 

It looks like the AMS-DOH flight now goes non-stop, continuing to MCT. It used to stop in DMM en route to DOH.

(The frequency seems to be five times per week. I recall that it was four times per week, then this press release indicated that it would increase to six times per week, still with a stop, but not that it has gone non-stop, it seems like five times per week.)

Good news for those flying from DOH, of course. The stop in KSA was tedious.

Lufthansa also recently started going non-stop to DOH -- the flight used to go FRA-RUH-DOH, now FRA-DOH-BAH. The only sacrifice was a reduction in capacity from 7 to 6 times per week.

KLM flight search still shows direct routing to AMS from DMM. Do you know of any announcements about that route? (Maybe its doing a Bahrain hop instead?) Would be a big loss here to no longer have it!

I haven't seen any announcements, but they're not dropping DMM. It looks like (e.g., the weeks of 04/12-19) a triangle route, AMS-KWI-DMM-AMS some days, and AMS-DMM-KWI-AMS on other days!
