Which won't stop any rejected person from then selecting that seat the regular way, which shouldn't be a problem, as it has to be vacant in the first place for these neighbor picking thing to work.

There are many reasons to opt out, aside from the creep factor.

You're almost guaranteed a chatty flight experience if you opt in.

And as someone who used to be in the media, I think I'd want to avoid having someone choose to sit next to me because they're "my biggest fan." (Well, that would be a stretch. My biggest fan is my cat.)

It's an interesting idea and in some iteration it may work. At least KLM is giving it a try.

Glad I used that GQ model's photo for my FB profile.

If nothing else, it has generated an enormous amount of free publicity, if my daily KLM news alerts are anything to go by.

Only true if you get to select exact seat numbers in the process. If the process selects something random every time a match is made (and released when rejected) it wouldn't be the case. Likely they'll do that randomized. Because it's impossible to match if everyone is picky about their seats.

Now that's really scary! There are lots of random middle seats out there.

If there is one thing I'm picky about on board then it is my seat. No way that I would ever leave the selection to KL (or any other airline).

+1

But I reckon it's the only way to make this work properly and with enough privacy protection.

And the odds of....

the person next to you telling the truth is only slightly higher than the anonymous on line dating service. At least the age will have to be within a decade or so, and the gross tonnage +/- 50% maybe?

The 'promo' video, also some 'creepy' assumptions on Youtube.

I still like the idea of Meet & seat and would most likely participate if they introduce it on one of the routes that I normally fly

I like the idea, too. I would not always want to participate, but for some flights it will be nice.

Yeah, they are funny. This really was an idea that didn't even look good on paper - surprised they have soldiered on with it.
