Meal prioritization

Does KL have a policy on prioritizing meal choice availability to Elite / Elite Plus customers? I recently flew AMS-MAD and back in C and on both segments my meal choice was unavailable. First time ok, second time mildly irritating (choice was veal or fish for anyone interested.)

I thought it was the standard front to back?

On long haul flights, I had a few times the stewardess asking elite/elit+ passengers what their preferred meal was before starting serving, so as to be sure those passengers got their choice. But that is not a rule, rather an exception imho.

That's not quite a rule...

I am not aware of any such policy. Did you sit in the front of back of the C cabin?

^^^ That is actually a very nice gesture...

I once flew with the no-longer existing and short lived Oasis HK and sat at the very last row on one of their 747-400's. When meals were handed out there was only fish left, and as I don't eat fish I was a bit disappointed (but what the heck, I had paid GBP 75 LGW -> HKG). Anyhow, the steward came back after 5 min or so with his crew meal and offered this instead...

Now THAT was service, and as Oasis HK was a LCC no Elite status or anything made a difference.

Someone could learn something from this...

Once or twice (that I remember) in long-haul "C", I've been given 'first choice' of the meal and told it was because I am FB Platinum - it is very nice!

Don't remember it happening on short-haul, though. But once, I was flying GLA-AMS-MAD in Y and was op-upped at GLA. Unfortunately, there was not enough business class (sorry, Europe Select) meals (sorry, culinary experiments) loaded and the FA was very apologetic for the lack (which was nice); in fact, she said there was one passenger asleep and, if she didn't wake up 'in time' I could have her meal! It was an early morning flight and I really wasn't that bothered about the meal, but I did appreciate the attention.

As it happened, I was also op-upped on the AMS-MAD leg and - would you believe it? - the flight had the exact same cabin crew! There were several folks op-upped and, when it came to mealtime, the FA (who remembered me from the GLA flight) came straight up to me and offered me first choice. The guy sitting next to me (also an op-up) had to wait until the end (no choice left, but he did get a meal) and complained quite loudly to the FA, asking why I was offered first choice and not he. The FA looked at me, smiled, then looked at him and said, "Hey, Henry and I have history!" :)
