The AMS-NWI route is a perfect example that KL will profit from upgrades if XPs were attached. Instead of barely upgrades to J at £49 on the NWI route, they could charge in the range of £100 to maybe even £130 if XPs were added. When upgrading from Y to J this would give you 10 extra XPs at a decent cost + ''fancy'' meal...

AMS-JFK today
1.299 euro or 112.500 miles to J.
Plus aircraft change from B789 to B77W.
I was downgraded from Economy Comfort to normal economy because of aircraft change despite being platinum. Well, I had an option to take a middle Economy Comfort seat.
Needless to say, I didn’t take it.

In April I was offered 499 Euro for an economy-biz upgrade from Manila to Amsterdam. 16 hour flight, so took it. Later various intra-EU upgrades for say 99 Euro, not worth it. You can get economy comfort often for a few Euro's, and if the flight is not fully full, the middle seat usually is empty so you are with 2 in a row of 3 like in biz. To pay over 90 Euro for a biz meal.....not worth it.

EUR 49 AMS-BRS as usual. Declined and was upgraded at the gate - D42 instead of D6 for a change. Was the first time I was upgraded on this route despite it being offered on the majority of flights I have taken on this route over the past 8 months (approx. 20 flights).
