Buying miles at the normal price point is way, way too expensive. I value each FB mile at about 1 cents, so 2000 miles would be worth 20 euro. Thus, the price for the meal would be 59 euro in my case.

The value of each mile depends, of course, on how you spend them. But only if you buy a promo C award while you would otherwise have bought a C ticket (Which very few people do) the value grows significantly above 1 cents/mile.

And if you're not Elite+, you would get lounge access otherwise costing you E35 (as a Silver).

There are many rumours, that if you have a friend who works in KLM, you get automatically bumped to business... is that even true? I would be so annoyed if it is so....

How on earth have you missed the "non-rev threads"?

No no, getting lost is a bad idea. To keep you on the straight and narrow:

That thread didnt turn out that great in the end. Just out of curiousity, if you do want to be bumped up by friends, do you make friends in the crew, check-in or where? I feel obviously that its very easy for KLM to do this.... I fly around 100 times each year with KLM, it would good to make some friends.

KL employs over 7,500 cabin crew, so you would have to make quite a few friends to stand a chance!

It was offered to me yesterday for the first time.
I was flying AMS-MAN, and it was only offered (EBC) at the self-service transfer machine in AMS for 79e. I declined.

That only counts if you were normally willing to pay the 35 euros for the lounge. Otherwise, it doesn't count as opportunity cost and it's really 0.

Special or A La Carte meals and buy-ups

Does anyone have any experience in ordering a special or a la carte (ALC) meal in economy and receiving the offer to 'buy-up' at OLCI? Or not...?
Could it be you're no longer eligible for an upgrade once you've ordered(and in the case of ALC paid for) any such meal? I know op-ups are never granted at the gate if the pax has ordered a special meal but obviously this will only happen just before departure.

Thoughts?

Apparently (in theory) you ARE eligible for an UG. From the A la Carte T&C:

On one hand, anything that is not plain vanilla and simple has a tendency to become "not possible" with KLM. On the other hand, an UG is more expensive than an ALC meal so they would rather you give up the ALC meal in favor of an UG.

It says bought upgrade to Biz. This means a paid upgrade, not an OpUp.

The question I was answering was about a paid UG, not an op-up (my bolding):
