On occasions where no upgrades were offered, I've often seen a couple of emtpy J seats, even with the cabin reduced to the minimum 2 rows on shorthaul flights.
Makes sense, guess they want to keep seats open for last minute full-fare pax.

AMS-TPE/MNL onboard B777W aircraft from Economy Comfort to Business Class, 8 seats available during check in:
me, FB Platinum member 1.002 EUR or 75.000 miles
my wife: FB Explorer member 907 EUR and no miles option.
I mean, this almost can not be serious. 1.002 EUR for one leg.

The upgrade price itself is far beyond ridiculous...

Today AMSCPH offered €69 at OLCI. 5 available and went out 4 open.
Btw, did not take it and kept my comfy seat where I ended up surrounded by half a student class that never heard of comfy, FB membership etc. That "filling up last seats policy" by KL suprises me every time in a negative meaning. Ok, this was a bit off topic.

It never surprises me, 'cause it happens all the time. Of course they fill all the seats on fully booked flights. But they could choose to move Silvers and Golds to EC, yet prefer to allocate the last EC seats to pax who fly once a decade, have never heard of OLCI and pitch up last at check-in. Or else scouts, marching bands, sports teams, students or other (youth) groups that check in collectively at the airport.

Was offered AMS-EZE recently; €649,- or 94k miles. Seven seats open. This was in Lounge 52. None via the app, however... my wife was able on the same booking&checkin via the seat selection map to pick a WBC seat. I wasnt, but there was an infant on my seat as well. I guess KLM discourage to upgrade with an infant 👶 ..

Yesterday BRE-AMS €49. Sticked with my EC seat, whole row for myself. In J I would have needed to sit next to some one.
AMS-BAH €399 normally would not take it for a day flight but did this time. Above average service!
