A little while back I was upgraded ATH-AMS together with 2 other pax. They called me on the phone in the (contract) lounge to ask if I would mind to be upgraded...well that was an easy question The upgrade offer for that flight was at 129 euro - which it commonly is when the fight is full. It is not so common for me as a Gold to be upgraded though (happens maybe one out of 50 flights or so). When the flight is not full the upgrade is at 199 euro for this route.
EBC was already at the smallest size, i.e. 2 rows (total of 8 people).

Anybody lucky enough to have a choice will never pick KL on that route.

Regardless of product I wouldn't pay that much for a short 3 hours flight.

I wouldn't pay that much for a return AMS-IST flight, let alone for a mere upgrade!!!

And johan is right - TK is the way to go on that route (or even from RTM!)

This thread is about upgrades, and when it comes to J class there's simply no comparison.

Right, but to get the option for an upgrade at OLCI, one must start with a Y class ticket.
So given that starting point... why shouldn't one choose KL for this route?

Sorry, can't help you there, I've never flown TK in Y.

Seems not too bad, for the distance. I would be tempted. But not knowing anything about that route, I suspect it will be a short haul, European aircraft, and the catering will probably be nothing to write home about (although my AMS-MAD last year was pretty good).

It's a mixture between EBC & WBC, it's a "European" aircraft, but you do get a Delft house at the end.
Meal service is indeed nothing to write home about.
When Y is full the price seems to be dropped to 79€, which all in all I'm happy to pay for, but at the moment it seems like I will have a row of my own in Y

Was offered AMS-GVA €149 in a 737.

Not sure if that technically included the flt I took to AMS (in an all-economy Fokker).

Peeking between the headrests of row 4 (I was in EC+ for €6), I saw the meal was a salad. Although, given that we were flying to Geneva, €149 for a salad doesn't seem all that bad.
