777 headphone socket + SMS/email

:td:

I experienced some different seating on my C-class 777 return flights: AMS-JRO.

The headphone socket is now positioned at the back underneath the control. Almost impossible to plug in without getting up.

The screen is no on the back of the shell in front. It is bigger than before, but no change of angle is possible.

At the start of each flight a pre-recorded video anounced that SMS and email were available in-flight. This was also noted in the June Holland Herald (p91 I think). The cabin crew were not happy ith KLM having done this, as they told me that the systems are coming at some point, but are not yet in place. They have to keep responding to queries on this.

You must have flown on the Boeing 777-300ER, which has the newest WBC seat, which is a pod-seat, equivalent to the AF NEV3 seat.

How did you find the seat compared to the old seat?

Sounds like KL have taken the sensible approach of not hard wiring the headphones into the chair a la Air France. Unfortunately it sounds like it means they aren't in thebest position.

Correct.
I prefer having a plug-in headset even though AF gives some paper covers for hygiene sake.
The location of the socket is very very inconvenient though.
Hope they will move this.
I like the bigger screens and like this seat too.

Well, for this it may be necessary to replace the seat! I doubt that they'll be doing it soon.

I never understood why AF hard wired the headphones into the seat. Seems pretty dumb to me especially as they must get easily broken. Surely that would mean they need to dismantle part of the seat to replace a headset?? Wierd. And the number of people that don't actually use those covers.....gross.

Yes, it was the 777-300 Gajan.

I could not tell any difference between the old and new seat in terms of comfort and functionality (recline etc).

Really?

The seat reclines more and the slope is much less.
Your front neighbour does not recline into you as it's a minipod.
The table more accessible and better design.
You have more privacy when you recline.

Still not perfect and not fully flat but in my opinion a big difference and improvement compared to the Slippery Slope Seat!

I do not recline the seat fully. I have never had a truly lie-flat seat and I find that all the C class seats I have used slope, and are better in a sort of s-shape position, partially reclined (for my personal comfort).

The table was more difficult tro pull out than the old one.

There are no priivacy hoods.

I guess we all have our personal tastes.

Overall, for me, not a huge difference.
