Are flights to/from Las Vegas really delayed?
 

Received the below email this morning from JetBlue:


Important information for customers departing from LAS

Dear JetBlue Customer,

Major runway construction work at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas is ongoing through May 2009, impacting flight operations for all airlines. Please expect delays when traveling to/from Las Vegas. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Any real truth to it? If so, how long are the delays typically?

Yes, Las Vegas is doing construction on 25L/7R. The airport and airlines are advising customers just incase there are delays. Some days there are delays and some days there aren't. Here is the link on the McCarran Airport.

We were number 20 for departure recently.

Leaving JFK or leaving LAS? The former is quite common; the latter not so much.

Leaving LAS on a noon flight

If that was JFK then number 20 would be an improvement! Last time I left JFK was on a JFK-BOS run at noon. We were number 2 for takeoff and arrived in BOS about 45 minutes early allowing me to catch my commute home.

People have been saying that LAS is running alright with the closed runway, as long as the weather is nice and nothing happens to mess up the flow. If the weather turns bad then the operations slow down because of the way they are operating with the one runway down for repair and overhaul.
