Flight Tracking on IFE?
Does JetBlue offer some sort of flight tracking channel on their in-flight entertainment? Or do they allow you to use a GPS on board?
Thanks. |
Yes, there's a flight tracking channel.
GPS is not allowed but I'm sure you can get away with it if you keep it discrete. |
Flight tracking
Channel 13 tracks the planes flight.

Thanks for the info. Some airlines allow GPS, some don't. It would be fun to see how my unit did, but I'm not interested in provoking flight attendants on my first B6 flight. Video recording seems to cause enough trouble as it is, who knows what would happen with a GPS unit!! :D

The Inflight crew will advise you when these items may and may not be used. The previous poster was correct, we do allow the use of GPS devices once we are above 10,000ft. I've actually tried mine while I was commuting to work but I couldn't get my Garmin to locate the satellites unfortunately. I really wanted to see my MAX Speed set at 500mph! :D

Yes, it is. There is flight tracking on channel 13 during your flights. I always watched the flight tracking where I am flew out from PHX-JFK from last year in 2007. I certainly remember where we went to JFK for 3 days trip. I didn't appreciated it where I am flying on B6 very often. That's mean where I am likely fly on DL is much better rather than JetBlue but, it was terrible on-time performance. I will never fly on B6 again for a long time. Because I am loyally frequent flyer on Delta for a long time. I will expect to fly on DL is much better to get more miles. Its will be great opportunity where I am flying on Delta is my logical choice.

It sounds like I"ll give my Magellan RoadMate a try. I wonder if the airspeed is too fast for it to be able to acquire a satellite? It always takes a few minutes if I turn it on after I've started driving. If 35 mph slows it down, I can only imagine what 500 mph does!!
The advantage of a GPS to me would be the ability to track the route while watching another channel or listening to music. |

If the middle seat is open, I usually switch that TV to channel 13 while I continue to watch my TV so I don't have to keep on flipping back and forth. That way the customer on the aisle can do the same.

The aircraft icon is way too large for the screen on Channel 13...it's nice to know where you are, but it's tough to judge when the tail of the aircraft is over the FL-GA border and the nose is where you will eventually be in about 10 minutes.
