seeing seat availability before purchase?
 

Hi there.

I am asking this question for my dad... so he can see how cool FT is. :)

He does not like the fact that you can't see what seats are available before you purchase a ticket. He says that depending what seats are available, he might choose a different flight time.

What do you Jet Blue experts suggest?

Call JetBlue.

Unfortunately, you can't see seat availability online for jetBlue. However, if you call 800-JET-BLUE, you can ask any agent, and they'll gladly tell you that info. You can then book right then, or to avoid the phone fee and get double TB points, you can just book those flights online.

The only place I've found is via my company's corporate travel site. But I have not tried expedia, and those sites.

They will probably implement this feature for TrueBlue members soon. In the meantime, as mentioned above call 1-800-JETBLUE and they'll help you out with seat availability.

FYI: In recent months, B6 began holding back 'prime' seats from advance bookings. These are the exit rows and aisle seats in front of aircraft. However, on MOST (ie. not-as-full) flights, you can grab one of these great seats if you check in online 24 hours prior, as they are released at that point.

I second this point. I've had excellent luck getting 'upgraded' seating assignments at online check-in time. So, if you're teetering on the edge of booking a flight, go for it...and then make sure to check in online early in the 24-hour preflight check-in window. At that time, a lot of 'premium' seats (like exit rows and adjacent seats in the front few rows with expanded leg room) tend to become available. Not a guarantee, and not as good as seeing choices ahead of time...but a decent strategy.

I've noticed this too and wondered about it.

The seat map 24+ hours out shows the premium seats as occupied, yet they magically open up with OLCI.

It is not as if they are moving those pax to the first class cabin as on the legacy carriers.

Did anyone notice that on ABC Nightly News (I think that was the TV channel) they mentioned that B6 is now charing extra $ for premium seats?

Checking this forum, I see no discussion of this.

Did B6 in fact, implement such a policy?

The next thread I read after posting was the abovementioned post; and if your post had not appeared, I was going to edit my post.

That said, it appears that B6 has taken the first (small) step towards a 2 class airline.

This has always been the case since they started holding back the first few rows and the exit row seats. They only become available when you log in for online checkin.
