Google Maps to Replace Moving Map

JetBlue Airways Announces Partnership With Google Maps to Provide Real-Time Flight Tracking Feature

Google Maps will replace Mapquest as the provider of our moving real-time flight tracker on Channel 13.

Nice to see JetBlue at the forefronts of teh InterWebs 2.0.

I'll skip the Diet Coke and drink the Kool Aid. ^

that's a good idea

Hopefully they'll dump the jetblue ads on channel 13 as well. It's so annoying to have to wait for 10-15 secs before the map comes back on - one of the few spots where DL's IFE outshines B6's.

I agree that the ads are annoying. I've purchased a ticket and am on their plane, why can't I just look at the map instead of reading about how great the airline is?

Here here! The mapquest map sucked and the ads suck too, they should go.

I hate the ads too. I imagine we shove all those ads on 13 simply in part that we have no inflight magazine to promote. Let's keep in mind some carriers, which have no TVs, have resorted to placing ads on tray tables. Talk about tacky :D

Don't forget the airlines with ads on the overhead bins, seat back, floor, and side of the plane. :D I hate the ads on CH 13 too but much rather have it on one channel than looking at it for the whole flight somewhere else on the plane.

the plane down to FLL on Tuesday still had Mapquest...

the plane on the return on Wednesday had Google...

I would say I like Google best

Were the ads still there?

Come on, a few seconds of ads per minute on ch. 13 is no big deal. JetBlue has a captive audience to show those ads and it makes perfect sense...especially for the partners such as DirecTV and Dunkin Donuts.

The Google maps sounds pretty cool...hopefully integrating a choice of XM station while viewing the map is not far away either!

Posting adds on Channel 13 serves a few purposes. First it toutes our award winning service and any special promotions. It shows our getaway packages as well as our cruise packages. Also it promotes our business partners and allows us to get some products for free. The Dyson vacuums and the former airborne samples where given to us free as long as we advertised for them (at least that is what I was told when I posed the question).

The ads also have some helpful information, like the full lists of drinks and snacks that are available, and newly added routes. Agreed that I'd like to see more map and less ads, but I bet the ads will stay.
