DL competition
Delta announced that they will be starting new service JFK-PDX in march. This is after last month's announcement about JFK-PHX (starting Feb 15). This goes along with their JFK transcons to SEA, SLC, LAX, SAN, LAS, and SFO. It seems like they are rather p*ssed at B6 and are trying to knock them out of the transcon market. I hope they fail misurably (the company, not the empoyees...and no one loses their job over it).
Way to go JetBlue...making the not just LCC's better, but the whole industry. |
Agreed 100%. I always said no airline deserves to fail more than DL. Why? Because the airline does not show appreciation to all customers and their business/marketing plan makes very little or no sense. It is a shame because DL is not what it used to be. The employees deserve much better...best of luck to them.
I just laugh at DL's constant dropping/reinstating service on competing jetBlue routes and the crazy use of puddle jumper Dash-8's on short flights with sky-high fares. |
We keep putting very strong pressure on Delta out of JFK. They respond by adding Dash 8 and CRJ service to cities we serve with the 190 and 320, go figure. I don't think DL will survive on some of these routes as we seem to have better name recognition in JFK then DL does.

Along with the cramp DL JFK terminal and multi-hour delays for these flights.

It's not all about JetBlue
Delta is not adding domestic routes to JFK primarily to challenge JetBlue. With the discontinuance of Song, Delta seems to have given up on that futile effort. To really challenge JetBlue, Delta would have to start more frequent service on larger planes to make a real impact.
The real reason that Delta is putting in all of these domestic routes is to support its build up of JFK as a major International hub, primarily to Europe. After all, the JFK hub was the core of what they bought from Pan Am back in the early 90's. If this hurts JetBlue on its home turf, Delta views this as a bonus. |
I hope they fail misurably (the company, not the empoyees...and no one loses their job over it). JetBlue, who has been around for roughly 8 years or so, has been loosing money for a year straight, had to sell planes, defer deliveries of new planes, and (and I don't care how much you say this is for the customers), has to actually remove seats to save the cost of one flight attendant, and reduce enough weight that they can actually make it across the continental US without refueling. I have seen crews stressed on sold out A320 flights with 4 crewmembers, now I can just imagine how service will be with each FA having to account for an additonal 11 passengers a peice on a sold out flight. |
