Jfk-hou
I was pricing out fair from New York to Houston yesterday for an upcoming trip for the Texas Bowl on the 28th. The cheapest tickets I seems to have with any airline was about $360, unfortunately not jetblue. There are four of us going from my family (my father, as a member of the alumni, is a huge Rutgers fan). With checking B6 as my first option and seeing the flights were price about $400 per person roundtrip (jfk-hou 12/28 & hou-jfk 12/29), we declined. We ended up settling for flights on Continental to Dallas and making the four hour drive each way to save $100 on each ticket (we paid $258 pp on CO, EWR-DFW).
To get to my point/question, is it just the time of the year with relatively last minute booking, or is JFK-HOU doing really well? |
I believe that the flights coming back on the 29th are almost completely full, hence the reason for the higher ticket cost. So it's ^ and :td:

Did you try pricing LGA-AUS? or LGA-SAT? They are both closer driving than Dallas..... I usually get a lot better pricing to LGA than either JFK or EWR.

Cheapest NYC-SAT flight for those dates is on CO EWR-SAT for $350+/-. I'm going to stick with the EWR/DFW to save the $400 even though it will cost me an extra $50 in gas and 8 hrs of driving time. On the upside, now I can get a nice, big, juicey steak at H3 in Fort Worth (fantastic steakhouse...haven't had a bad steak there yet) on my way back to DFW.

Odd to buy a cheap ticket on 12/11 for travel on 12/18. Is this normal for B6? |
Yikes...DFW is a long drive from Houston....and Boooring. (IIRC around 4 hrs--I don't drive to dallas anymore ) It's a good thing you're saving $400 total...anything less and it wouldn't be worth the time and the hassle.

Yeah, factoring the cost of the whole trip, we needed to keep things as cheap as possible. In our opion, it was worth saving the $400 for the drive. If we were talking something like $40 per person, we would have gone into Houston at the higher rate. Nevertheless, it was relatively last minute. I just hope its a good game. GO RU!!!

I guess folks value time and time value of money differenly. Gas RTW on IAH Dallas will be around $100. Food etc. easily will add another $25-50 dollars. Add in the additiional rental car cost. Would have gladley paid the extra to avoid the hassel and compication.

Hi, Seat13c. Good to hear there's more FTer's coming to the Texas Bowl, but sorry to hear you'll be driving from Dallas to here  . Do consider joining some of us for drinks prior to the game if you arrive in Houston by 4:30pm on Game-Day. Several of us will be meeting at the Flying Saucer Bar at the intersection of Capitol & Main in Downtown Houston. The bar is adjacent to the light-rail line, which runs to the stadium. The bar also has a selection of approx. 300 different beers to choose from ^ . Parking at the stadium itself is a royal pain unless you already have purchased a parking pass.
It will be a mix of CO Board folks, various other FTers, and Texas Bowl attendees at the pre-game drinks. If you're interested, click on the Texas Bowl link in my signature, and let us know in the Community Forum. The more the merrier. |

We should be in Houston before then and it's is a very rare occasion I turn down a beer. However, I do come from a family of non-drinkers inwhich they usually don't go out of their way for these pre game events. However, If I can break away for a short while I'll stop by. Any place that serves 300 beers can't bad at all. BTW, I am a big fan of Yuengling beer. It's brewed in Pottsville PA and Tampa FL. Do you know if they have it there? |
