Jet Blue to order a new kind of plane?

As this wonderful airline continues to make money, do you think that it will order new planes. I would love to see them order the A321,A318,A319,A340-600...J/K on that one. But the rest of the planes seem plausible.

A while ago, I saw an article that said they were interested in an A320.5, that is, something in between the two. Sounds like splitting hairs to me, and there was no indication that Airbus was sold on the idea.

I would seriously doubt they would order multiple models in the range, as fleet commonality is a huge key to their efficiency advantage.

I have never flown JetBlue (living in Europe I don't get much chance to!) but have heard great things about them.

Fleet commonality isn't an issue as far as A318/319/320/321 go - they are all the same aircraft, with different lengths of fuselage. All the ground handling equipment etc is compatible. I believe they even have a common type rating for pilots (the cockpits are all exactly the same design - come to think of it - even the long haul airbuses have the same cockpit design, except with 4 throttles instead of 2 in the A340). The engines ARE different (albeit variants in the same range that presumably take most of the same parts), and the smaller A318/19 can't take cargo containers, but the commonality is otherwise almost 100%.

Ordering an A321 would not be much more of a step for JetBlue than Southwest deciding to order 737-600's to go with their 737-800's.

I've always wondered why it hasnt already. WN specializes in high-frequency service... but some of their routes (PHX-LAS, MSY-MCO, HOU-DAL) could support both hiked frequency and larger aircraft. And you also see the likes of FR flying 738s profitably as well.

Because a 738 would require a 4th FA.

Makes sense. So why then would that be soon changing? (assuming the poster who said that was properly informed)

I would love to see some JetBlue A330-200s in a high density (no FC but 32+ in seat pitch in coach) criss-crossing the Atlantic, perhaps raining the terror of year-round low fares on AF and LH's strongholds

yeah, US might be looking to get rid of theirs if things continue like they are! I think Neelman is smart enough to wait for several years before trying international service though - need to build out the domestic network fisrt.
