Help! JFK-MBJ

I think I know the answer to this but your expert advice is always valuable. We are flying JFK to Jamaica on Jetblue 7/4 5:30am (or so we thought). The chance that this flight actually happens is very suspect at this time due to the hurricane. Looking at all the jetblue flights around 7/3 - 7/5 they are 95% full. If jetblue loses a day (or even two) I see things descending into complete chaos. I don't think we'll ever get there on jetblue and be forced to pay $1000 - $1500 for two seats one way on some other airline. I'm thinking about booking a back up flight on Friday morning with two of the few seats left and canceling it if our Thursday flight goes. Your thoughts?

I'm no GW McLintock (sorry), but I've done more than enough JetBlue flights to have the rule of thumb that "if it's a time-important flight, and you're going Caribbean/Boston/NYC on JetBlue, book a backup"

Yeah my question was kind of stupid. I just booked a backup flight for 7/5. Stuck in row 31 LOL. Since it's with points I probably won't be able to cancel it on the app and will have to sit on a chat for three or more hours to cancel it.

It looks like you went ahead and booked another ticket already. If enough flights cancel they may set up an extra section, though I doubt they'll have the extra aircraft for it around this holiday.

There's no way to predict what would happen, and since it would be a weather-related IROP you wouldn't be owed much other than the next available seat on the next available flight. That could be the next day or even a few days later. JetBlue has very few domestic partners and I don't think any of them will help get you to Jamaica from New York.

If it's any consolation, JFK is in Jamaica, NY. So in a sense you are already there :D

100% agree with this advice! But I would sub “Caribbean/Boston/NYC” with anywhere. Jetblue flight we considered booking for today (non Caribbean route) is only 6 hrs rolling delay and downgrade in aircraft. Happy to have trusted my gut and picked an alternative.
