Jetblue pittance for IFE not working

Folks - our entire row had its IFE not working and they could not fix it after multiple resets. What's even more shocking is they awarded a $25 travel bank credit for the inconvenience and it expires in 6 months! I feel this is an absurd low level of compensation and having such a short expiration date means we won't be able to use it at all. Thoughts?

Sounds like the same we got awhile ago. Is it an appropriate amount? Was the flight 1 hour or 6 hours long?

I'd think one year would be more appropriate than 6 months.

I always travel with Emergency Backup Crossword Puzzles for situations like this. They get used more often than I'd expect, but sometimes it's just due to the drivel being offered by the airlines

five hour long flight and I personally think it is a pittance and insulting. Obviously I am of Air about this Airlines troubles, but I just hate how it has transformed from the days of being one of the most loved Airlines

On my last 2 JetBlue flights the IFE wasn't working at all. I asked the FAs about it and both times they said the systems were very old, JetBlue wasn't even repairing them on the older planes, and there was nothing they could do. I asked about travel bank credit (which I've received in the past) and they both told me JetBlue stopped that practice earlier this year. I'm actually surprised they offered you anything.

Yep, the practice officially ended last summer, though it seems like JetBlue gives FAs some level of discretion because I've seen it be awarded to rowmates since

The E190s IFEs are so busted at this point that I feel like they were just giving out $25 to everyone on those flights until they changed it

It may sound pittance, but on AA, for a similar problem, you are given 5k miles as compensation for the inconvenience. Is it similar compensation, maybe, but yes, for a 5hr flight I would certainly be escalating this to customer service. After all, doesn't most airlines advertise about their "in-flight entertainment" as part of the service provided?

AA has IFE?!!?!?!

(Kidding...kind of)

I was surprised you got anything. Given the failure rate of the IFE, if they gave out $25 coupons to everybody with busted IFE, that would take care of that flight's profit...

JetBlue no longer gives compensation for inoperative IFE as there is entertainment available via Fly-Fi. That fact that you received anything is an exception and should be treated as such.

This will make for a good class-action lawsuit someday.

Why? How??? No laws have been broken. No contract (of carriage) has been breached. No FARs have been violated. What in the world are you talking about?

And what type of plaintiffs firm would devote resources to such low odds of scoring a few breadcrumbs in damages?

B6 advertises "As the only U.S. airline with seatback screens at every seat, JetBlue takes nonstop entertainment to new heights with live TV, movies, music and unique content. All at your fingertips. All for free."

If that's not available on a flight here or there, that happens. If it works out that B6 is selling this as part of their product on planes they know don't have working in-seat IFE for many flights and have no intention of either fixing it or offering compensation, that's false advertising.

Yeah, all of that is also available on Fly-Fi (minus the seatback screen, of course, but once you use your own device that's pretty much covered). If you think JetBlue didn't do their research before dropping the IFE comp you [are wrong]. All airlines are in the business of making money, not losing it (and ironically, none of them are terribly good at it! :D).

As an aside, music is not available on the AVANT interface (only LTV-based systems on some A320s and all classic A321s have SiriusXM).

If you think airlines don't cut services thinking they can get away with it even when there might be a penalty for them in the long run, [rule 12 violation, deleted by mod] Look at QF selling tickets for flights that don't exist or BA pushing back on all 261 claims.
