JetBlue lowers 2024 revenue outlook

JetBlue Airways shares tumbled more than 12% in early trading Tuesday after the airline lowered its 2024 revenue forecast, a setback as it tries to return to profitability.

The carrier said second-quarter revenue would likely drop as much as 10.5% on the year, more than double the decline analysts polled by LSEG expected. New York-JetBlue forecast full-year sales would drop in the low single digits, also below Wall Street expectations, after estimating flat sales for the year in its January report.

Actually there aren't many reasons to fly Jetblue anymore. Jetblue is a perfect example of how to take a very good airline and turn it into a very bad airline.

When the flight attendants voted to unionize in 2018, I said that JetBlue will file bankruptcy within 10 years. Notwithstanding COVID, I stand by my prediction, especially now with Geraghty at the wheel.

Yes, unfortunately, you're probably correct. The company has completely lost its way and its personality. Other than seat pitch, there's zero real differentiation between them and nearly all domestic carriers (except how unreliable they are!)

And their expansion to EU destinations seems completely meaningless to me at least. Too little too late for anyone to actually care

I get that most of us are totally disillusioned with JetBlue (myself especially) but your comments IMO are totally off. Seat pitch is generally not a differentiatior for them anymore since they are down to 32" on most aircraft in standard seats, which is the industry standard these days. Their built-in IFE is still superior to just about everyone else and they are the only airline with fleet-wide complimentary wifi (since I think Delta isn't quite there yet). I've always said once you're on the plane and in the air, JetBlue is as good as it gets in terms of inflight experience. They still have some of the best flight attendants in the industry. It's everything else that's a nightmare.

agreed except for on flights where mint was sold and then flight operated with non-mint aircraft. Bad form.

That's obviously a special case and still doesn't reflect on the actual inflight experience. Even if you're stuck in coach it's better than if you were in coach on United. Mint is obviously the best transcon J inflight product (specifically inflight... and not on the ground, so no need to discuss the lack of lounges, etc.) (and I specifically mentioned J since AA has a 3-cabin aircraft for now).

I tried JetBlue because of the status match, I thought the Mint suites were competitive. I wonder how many fliers JetBlue were able to get through the status match towards the end of last year.

I was very skeptical of Geraghty (how do you promote a COO of an airline that's notorious for bad ops?), but St. George coming back to B6 gives me enough faith that they'll fend off bankruptcy. I don't think it's going to be an easy few years for them, but his turnaround work with LATAM was second to none.

It could go either way at this point. A lot of surprises out of left field lately. Perhaps there is still hope.

Southwest just announced they are open to a M&A activity, but I definitely don't think it will be JetBlue.
