UVF - JFK - BOS question
 

Taking my wife to Jade Mt for her birthday and our return is 5/27 through JFK. Flight lands at 830pm with a 2h20m layover getting us in at 12:15am. There is a DL flight that leaves at 10pm and even a JB flight that leaves at 935pm. I could also uber over to LGA and take a direct flight back to PVD that departs at 10pm. My question is JFK immigration and how slow it might be. End of a holiday weekend, at night, thoughts? Should I just stick with the original through to Boston flight or go with one of the other options?

I more or less tried this yesterday with B6 on SKB-JFK and DL JFK-BWI. Immigration was a breeze, however, the 51 minute delay for maintenance plus the hour wait for bags meant we missed our connection anyways. (I allotted 2.5 hours)

so if you had carryon luggage only, you would have been fine?

It's risky at best. Last year (and the year before that IIRC) JetBlue was ranked as the lowest-performing airline in the USA by the WSJ (their 2023 rankings should come out this week). T5 CBP is a crapshoot on a good day, and you'll still have to reclear security upstairs (or T4 if you choose to take Delta). To get from T5 to the Delta gates can take anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour, so I wouldn't count on that. If you're okay with holding a Travel Bank, book the JFK-PVD separately and then cancel whichever you don't take.
