First flight delayed, missed connecting flight...compensation?

We flew JB 2694 on 11/25 from NAS to FLL, scheduled take off time was 628pm, but didn't take off till 803pm. which caused us to miss our connecting flight that was scheduled at 910pm.
they did provide us a hotel room for the night and got us on the next flight out at 7am. when I asked about meal voucher, it was told there was none.

Via chat, they send me an email for verification of the delay, citing "Due to late arrival of equipment"...but didn't mention anything about this causing us to miss the next flight.
Now that I am trying to get a hold of someone at Jetblue via phone, they are now saying the delay is due to "weather" ???

So the first question is, assuming it's not weather (cuz it's "uncontrollable') do I get any compensation for a delayed flight that caused us to miss our connecting flight and had to stay overnight?
The second would be, why are they trying to wiggle out of this by saying it's weather related? Weather at both FLL and NAS was beautiful : )

From Jetblue's contract of carriage:

If a Passenger’s travel is disrupted due to a Controllable Irregularity and the Passenger experiences a Departure Delay of six (6) of more hours, Carrier may, upon request from the Passenger, provide the following amenities: meal vouchers and/or a hotel voucher.
In short, they do make mention of a "meal voucher", but the "and/or" along with "hotel voucher" does gives them some wiggle room. It probably just depends on how much you push. At best you'll likely get a $25 meal voucher (per person), so it comes down to how much you value your time and how much time you have on your hands to pester them about it. :)

So would they be so willingly to provide us with a hotel if it was indeed "weather" related?
also, I was looking at the 200-250 voucher for the 3 of us for the 6hr+ delay : )

thx

Your outbound flight was delayed less than 2 hours which caused you to misconnect. You may view that as a 6+ hour delay in aggregate, but Jetblue probably won't see it that way. Again, there are no hard and fast rules here. You can threaten small claims court, arbitration, complaint to the DOT, etc. They are not just going to roll over and hand you $600. You're going to have to push them for it. Again, it depends on how much time you want to spend on this.
