Thanks for the info, you two!

Flying B6 tomorrow with my wife; Both Mosaic and our flight has seven open Mint seats at T-22hrs (currently unassigned seats, because EMS is all that's left). We're always friendly to ticket counter folks and gate agents, if that helps.

What are our chances getting a complimentary upgrade to Mint, and what can we do to improve our chances, if anything? Show up early, ask a particular person in a particular way, bring a gift (e.g. chocolate), or something else?

Exceptionally low. Free EMS is a WAY different offering that free Mint.

FLIHGH and RWPrincess's comments were alluding to complimentary upgrades to Mint.

We've gotten complimentary upgrades to EMS as we likely will tomorrow, because there are only EMS seats open send unlikely that they'll send out Mint with seven open seats, especially if they need to put standbys and non-revs on, and they have Mosaics that they can op-up to Mint to free space in Y.

Or just put the non-revs in Mint. I know several employees who have flown up front using their flight benefits.

Free upgrades to Mint are exceedingly rare. I've seen it happen twice since service started.

On B6 323 to LAX right now - received upgrade at the gate on what I suspect was an overbooking in Core. Mosaic via match, OLCI at T-23, looks like Mint went out with one empty seat. Although I had an EMS aisle, we ended sitting on the tarmac for ~75 minutes at JFK so the op-up to Mint was much appreciated.

Just to confirm - you were upgraded to mint or to EMS?

I was on a mint flight a few weeks ago and gate agents were selling upgrades to mint. No idea of the price. Mint went out with at least 8 empty seats.

Two twenty-somethings tried to self upgrade but were politely and efficiently dispatched to their economy seats.

It's almost always $499 at the gate if they have seats available.

As advised by many here, no upgrade was offered (besides paid for $499/each) Mint went out with three-to-five seats open. Sad, because we would have loved to fill one of those seats. Oh well, gotta pay to play, right?
