JetBlue, El Al to Begin Codeshare
On the heels of the dissolution of the AA-El Al frequent flyer partnership, B6 is linking up with El Al.
This was published (in our newsroom) a short while ago. JetBlue, El Al to Begin Codeshare JetBlue Airways announced that it plans to begin a codeshare agreement with Israeli flag carrier El Al. The two airlines filed for approval with the U.S. Department of Transportation, and are currently awaiting approval.... <SNIP> |

LY & B6 were already "linked up" within an interline agreement. And the move to codeshare has nothing to do with being a FF partnership. Probably more value in just linking to the actual press release than the click-bait which doesn't really offer useful analysis. |

I presume this means one will be able to earn Matmid points on B6 flights with the LY code, similar to the relationship with AA that will have been?

Plenty of things are possible. But JetBlue only has so few FF earn/burn partners right now that implying it is imminent is pretty bad form IMO.

I doubt they would have made the announcement had El Al and AA not ended their partnership and it's not inconceivable that El Al and B6 will consider a similar partnership given the lack of a U.S. frequent flyer program partner.

It is somewhat surprising that a FF partnership wasn't announced today by B6; I don't believe that such would require USG approval, unlike codesharing which does require approval. |
The main reason I fly AA as my secondary airline (after DL) is LY points... I'd love to see B6 give points for LY flights, as the main thing keeping me from flying B6 a lot is their lack of international options compared to the larger programs... they have better planes and i'm impressed with their Mint class - it would be great if B6 took another step closer to main streaming

How is EK going to react to this? Even though they won't have any relationship directly with El Al will they still want to be associated with an airline (B6) who has entered a relationship with El Al?

The same reaction they'd have with Qantas, since they are partnered with El Al and Emirates at the same time. Same with South African Airways.

EK isn't the first Arab airline to eskimo brother with LY, and others have been from more hostile nations than the UAE |
