If they award an arbitrary number of points then it should be additive to my TB account and not have separate status. I don't fly JetBlue enough to gain any really advantage for another year.

Beyond the fact that they were one of the first for inflight personal entertainment, I never did get JetBlue as a FF.
That is messed up. All points should have the same expiration. Why should your gratitude points expire in one year if the rest of your points don't!

I expect to be receiving about 21000 Trueblue points as a result of signing up, on an impulse, for the JB Amex.

However, I have been unable to determine what use I might be able to make of these points, due to the variability in point charges.

Might this number of points be sufficient for 2 roundtrips Sacramento-Long Beach or Sacramento-Las Vegas? I realize certain trips cost more than others, but is there some benchmark?

My points expire in May, so I'm looking into blowing them to either Long Beach or Las Vegas from SFO. If Vegas, I figure I can just do an overnight and spend it wandering the strip and the casinos so I don't have to pay for a hotel (spend as little as possible). Another option is ride to one of those airports, then turn around and come right back, getting some nice satellite tv and unlimited snacks along the way.

The best way is to go to the jetBlue website and look up the fares for the flights/times you might want. There's an option on the site to display the fares in dollars or points so you can see what flights will cost the least amount.

I discovered there is NOT a fixed ratio of points to dollars. For example, a given cheap fare might be 5000 points for a $59 flight, but you might also see 5000 points for a $49 sale fare or even a $69 flight.

Thanks for the tip! I'm glad to see that it's more transparent than I thought.

And dont cut it too close...

My points were expiring on the 13th, so just to make sure that if I booked a flight on the 12th that I would be OK.

NOT OK.

It takes 5 days for the miles to post so I would have lost the points if I didn't call and double check.

So make sure you book at least 5 days prior to your miles expiration so you don't lose them.

What a gimmick. TB site advertise points don't expire but in fine print....as long as you fly every 12 months.

Wow, I just checked my account and it looks like "Thank You Points" also expire 1 year after issuance, regardless of flight activity.

TrueBlue is increasingly consumer unfriendly. I plan to wind down my account and no longer accrue points whatsoever.

Not sure what this means. I just booked four flights on the day my miles were expiring.

I believe he meant book a revenue flight to earn more points--since the points don't post for a few days after the flight, it would be possible for the old points to expire before the new points get credited to extend the expiration date.

That being said, I suspect if you were to call in and explain this they could manually reinstate the points. This would be the true test of how customer-friendly JetBlue is.

Got it. Gosh you would think that would be an easy fix via phone. But one never can be sure.

You need to fly before the expiration date.

Months before my points expired I booked a flight that departed 2 weeks after the expiration date. I thought I was safe. They deleted the points. Several calls and visits to the customer service desk didn't get the points reinstated.

I just logged in to check my flight for May 16. I booked the flight with points and the remaining points expired when I originally wrote this post.

Online it does show that my flights are cancelled. I called up and the rep said that my flights are not cancelled but that the flight arrival time changed by one minute and for some reason the system shows it as cancelled. She then went ahead and e-mailed me a confirmation and said I am still confirmed.

For Clarification,
My booked flight was fine. They just cancelled my points on their expiration date even though I had a future flight booked,
