New LGB Terminal Revealed

Long Beach's airport of the future

Artistic renderings of a $136 million modernization plan at Long Beach Airport reveal a much-modernized facility replete with a new passenger concourse, aircraft tarmac and security screening zone.

The images reveal a highly stylized airport designed to replace crowded and aging passenger concourses that have swelled with passengers as volumes more than doubled in recent years.

Under the modernization plan, 11 gates accompanied by waiting areas and several gift and snack shops will sit parallel to the airport tarmac.

Work on the new concourse will begin later this year, with completion scheduled for 2013.

I'm betting LGB is going to be a pain to use as this construction goes on.

Nice to see the concentration on green architecture and an open, airy plan. Not having a jet bridge is no big deal. ONT had the same back in the 80s and the airport was hopping then. Since the upgrade, the airport has lost a lot of air service.

I doubt LGB will be difficult to use during the construction. There are probably more flights in an hour coming in and out of LAX as there are in LGB all day. It won't be that difficult to move a few hundred people on hour around the construction. It does not look like an overly complex construction project.

It must be nice to be in a place where it never rains.

I think it looks like a fresh plan, much different than anything I am used to since I have never been to an airport without jet bridges. (Probably going to connect through LGB soon though). They said when construction is set to begin, but when will it end?
