Really? I didn't know any distributors even did that.

Everything I ever bought (admittedly in the US) had selectable English dubs and original Japanese with or without English subtitles. I refuse to even watch, let alone buy, anything that only has inferior dubs. I guess the Spanish language distros play by different rules.

Works a little differently in Spain, or at least, Heidi is one of a few special cases.
Cartoons shown in Spain relatively recently (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Evangelion etc) will usually allow you to select Japanese on the DVDs. Heidi was a phenomenon of the seventies in Spain and forms part of the country's collective psyche. It doesn't have an 'anime' following, it's accepted as part of a shared culture and has been watched by, pretty much, every new generation of Spaniards since it was first shown. The fact that it is Japanese is irrelevant for most people.
Have to say though, the dubbing into Castillian Spanish is generally first class - and particularly so for Heidi, nothing like the excruciatingly awful efforts from some of the North American companies who butcher Japanese films and series for dollars.

I just have different requirements to most other Spaniards, and Heidi is exactly the kind of source I want my own child to learn Japanese from (it's also exactly the kind of source I want them to learn Spanish from... hence my frustration in having to buy the lot twice!)

Wow lots of good tips about Akiba. Guess I can spend an entire day there then :D

On that topic, any good places to eat in Akiba? I have been there once in last November, but I was following a friend who knows Japanese. We ended up having lunch on the 8/F or 9/F of one of those big electric store buildings.

I sometimes have lunch at Tonkatsu Wako, just to the south of the JR Akihabara station, and underneath the Yamanote line tracks. IIRC, the tonkatsu set meals start around ¥780 including as much soup, rice, shredded cabbage and tea as you want.

If you need a Region 2 DVD player, you might consider getting a game console that can play DVDs. I have a couple of region-free DVD players but also have a Japanese version Sony Playstation 2. It plays Japanese PS2 games as well as Region 2 DVDs.

There are several decent restaurants in the Mansei building on Chuo Dori just south across the bridge towards Kanda Stn.

To the southwest of the Suehirocho Stn on the back street is a giro place and a Chinese noodle place that the chef shaves the noodles with a knife direct from the dough into a boiling pot. Just don't press the extra spice button on the ticket machine.:(
