KIX to YVR One Way
Folks need some assistance.
What will be the most economical way to get from KIX to YVR one way in late July? Can we purchase a fixed round trip and throw away the return leg? The best deal we thought we had booked was Air China but our travel agent dropped the ball and now he is saying sorry no more seats. |
Yes, cheapest would be round-trip. If the price difference isn't that much, you could get an open-ended ticket just in case you wanted to return.
|
The price difference usually goes way, way up if you want it open-ended, because it typically has to be booked in full Y in that case.
|
Return trip and ditch the coupon , prices have typically risen significantly after schools let out (around the Sea Day on July 21). Pricing reaches it's apex in early August around Obon. One way will be full fare one way fare.........
|
I'm going to take the alternative view and say look for a one-way. Round trip prices then are quite expensive, it's entirely possible that a one-way will be cheaper than a return ticket.

No, I am totally Canadian, just want to go home for a few months. Not sure where my next assignment is so no point buying return unless it is cheaper.
Negative consenquences like travel consolidator charges us afterward if we don't use the last leg or we unintentially hold a plane on the ground as they look for us.... I am stretching a bit here. We have contacted a few travel consolidators but no luck as of yet. |
So you are buying a oneway/return from KIX and you live in Taiwan? I have flown many times via Taiwan to Canada, but no experience the other way around(this was when I was young, foolish and ketchi)! Might I suggest you look at this website for comparison purposes and give them a call.....
http://www.iace.co.jp/english/osaka/ BTW: HIS in Osaka is offering a 2 month PEX fare on AC starting at 98,000 Yen return ++ |
I recall that HIS was criticized by foreigners because they refused to offer certain cheap return fares to non-Japanese clients.
I think HIS made that decision because they felt that their gaijin clients were costing them money by throwing away the return coupons of cheap return fares - and HIS was getting penalized by the airlines. Bottom line - If you get a cheap fare from HIS and leave them to pay the penalty, there probably won't be any consequences for you. (And I won't feel particularly sorry for HIS). |

Guess that is ketchi. PS - thanks for IACE hint. |
I suggest buying a return trip with the return date far out. You can always change the date of the return leg if you have to.
For instance, buy a return ticket departing July 2008 and returning February 2009. |

Thanks for the suggestions.
IACE was great. They were literally half price of the other travel agents/sites we asked and they still had seats. |
