Restaurant recommendations for Gora - Hakone
We shall be staying at Hakone which is in Gora. Would appreciate restaurant recommendations. We especially appreciate beef, shabu and BBQ. Any recommendations? Thank you.

Gora is in Hakone, BTW.
Sorry, I can't help but ask, especially as I suspect that yours will be a short stay. Is there any reason why you don't expect to eat at wherever it is you're lodging? I imagine most of us who have stayed in Gora had our meals included in our lodging rates. As this is such an integral part of the Ryokan experience it certainly didn't occur to me to look elsewhere. --- The exception is lunch - but you may find (in fact it's very likely) that you won't be in Gora itself at lunchtime if you are completing the Hakone circuit. Outside the inn I stayed at, my lunch was a very nice bowl of udon noodles on the shores of Lake Ashi. If I wanted to turn lunch into more of an event I would probably consider going to the Fujiya Hotel http://www.fujiyahotel.jp/english/facilities_en.html --- |
We are thinking of Hyatt Hakone as we have a child who may not yet appreciate the ryokan experience. Hence the question regarding restaurants. Good that food in hotels such as Hyatt are usually, we often feel like eating out at least some of the time. Thank you.

I guess there's no point in pointing you to Inns that serve meals without lodging then. (Like this one for meals between 3pm and 8pm http://www.fukuzumi-ro.com/english/e-rate1.htm)
Hopefully someone can give you personal recommendations. General dinner advice for tourists is at the places listed here: http://www.odakyu.jp/english/lnk/index.html I can reassure you that at lunch time there are many more places to choose from, especially in this area http://www.hakone.or.jp/english/youkoso/mapg-e.html As you have no doubt discovered, there's not much in English about dining options in this area. Although I don't usually rely on hotels for recommendations, I'd probably make an exception in this case. Avoiding French food and Kaiseki menus at dinner time might be a challenge. |
