Tokyo in March
My wife and I will be arriving NRT Mar 20 for 1 week enroute to SIN (Vacation). We are booked in Shibuya area (Cerulean Tower Tokyu) on the executive floor, breakfast included. It looks like a nice choice, BUT I am toying with the idea of the Mandarin Tokyo. It is about $100 more per night, not including breakfast. We are staying at the Mandarin in SIN.
My question is; for simple sightseeing and convinience is it worth paying more at the Mandarin or is the Cerulean a good choice? It seems to me that the Cerulean is more value for our $$$$ but I am not sure if it is convenient or not, or in fact, if it is a nice hotel period. Any first hand advise or comments would be greatly appreciated. |
I am not sure how much you're paying for Cerulean, but in my experience it was a good value for such a good location (3 min walk to JR station), decent room / service, and cosmopolitan ambiance.
If you're into luxurious experience, or simply interested in comparing same brand across countries, go for Mandarin, it's really a great place, but IMHO it's not worth additional $100/nt, unless it's just one-night stay. Spend that money at Midori Sushi. |

Mandarin Oriental gets semi-favourable reviews here. People seem to be saying that they're not getting what they expect from the MO brand in Tokyo. Did you consider other properties? For example - Strings Hotel in Shinagawa / Four Seasons in Marunouchi / Grand Hyatt in Roppongi? |
I was told by someone who should know that the MO Tokyo was forced to lower rates from their opening levels because of service problems.
If you really want the luxury experience in Tokyo, right now you want the FS Maronouchi or the PH Tokyo in Shinjuku. |

OP asked for more impressions of Cerulean via PM but I will share here
If you have a good rate and rate is important then you should be very happy with this 4star property Other places mentioned here are 5 star - and inevitably more expensive -- bang for the buck is not so great as you go higher up the scale (law of diminidhing returns or something) - so if you are price conscious then take the great rate you found at the cerulean. |
Thanks everyone....will hold onto Cerulean reservation, but will rethink MO or perhaps Four Seasons in Marunouchi .
