Yes, I know, but you don't sit all the time, i.e. your experience is less boring.

I just hope you're not planning on doing this in the summer!

It seems you are right at home here on FT! Only on this kind of website can you hope to find people who find changing trains, crossing platforms, queuing to check in and queuing to clear security and queuing to board their plane as 'interesting'. :D

Me? I like spending a few hours with nice book, regular service from a trolley with a succession of refreshments and delicious bento delivered to my seat, looking up occasionally and seeing the change in scenery and my relaxation punctuated occasionally with a thrilling WHUMPPH! as another shinkansen hurtles past (which helps me remember the speed I'm travelling at). I like to keep my energy for 'interesting' pursuits when I arrive - not feel tired and exhausted from all the ragged and tedious demands of modern air travel. Oh yes, I also like to have access to a toilet for as long as possible and the chance to walk up and down a very long train whenever I feel like it.

As a pertinent aside, my husband has had to go on a few intra Japan plane journeys. He suspects that ANA and JAL put their worst pilots on the national flights. He used to complain of nosebleeds and headaches from sharp and uncomfortable descents - not something I've ever seen him suffer with on our European flights together, but then the terrain is different over much of Europe.

I genuinely hope you enjoy your journey! It's just not something I'd choose to do myself.

I know I'm one of those people that would rather take a roundabout way to get somewhere if it means I'm constantly moving around rather than sitting still.

Tastes differ, I prefer an hour on B777 instead of 3 hours on a train. After all, I never use toilets on public transport ;)

You obviously don't drink enough green tea....

Never? I'm glad you can keep your legs crossed on the flight to and from Japan, I certainly can't.:p

Have you calculated how long it's going to take you to get to and from the airports yet? Or the additional fares involved? ....I'm just curious.

Fortunately, my body is trained to kind of hibernate on a plane, so I can easily endure 10 hour flights.

about 40 minutes from Ginza to Haneda / 700 yen
16 minutes from Itami to Osaka / 230 yen

Check-in deadline is 20 minutes for domestic flights.

16 minutes from Itami to Osaka / 230 yen
Its 25-30 minutes and 420 yen (+1 transfer) from Itami Airport to Umeda Station (Osaka).

Itami Station is not the Airport. The Airport train station is "Osaka Airport" on the Osaka Monorail.

Thank you for correction. I've done only preliminary checks without actual times and maps.

You just wait until you get your first kidney stone, that's all I'm saying...:(

(I'm afraid you sound like a prime candidate for them)

What do you mean? ???

I used to 'go' about two or three times a day until not so long ago. When I spread the advice to drink more and use the oterei more often, believe me, I'm spreading real love.

Anyway, those visits to the loo mean you don't have to sit down all the time and they make the trips less boring. ;)

Well since we are on the topic of "going" and this thread has "gone", I drink about 2-3 litres of water daily.....so I am a toilet friendly guy:D ....just not UA's toilets:td:

Why is that? I don't fly to Asia that often. My usual itinerary is 30 minutes by car to the airport from home, then spending one hour in a lounge, then about 3 hours somewhere to Europe and finally one more car transfer. Otherwise, I also drink about 2 liters of water every day.

In Japan, if you get one of the toilets with the heated seat and all the sprays and controls, you'll WANT to try it out more often -- at least you will if you have an engineering background like me!

Q Shoe Guy, is this kind of discussion a part of being a "moderator-in-training?" Or is that "moderator-in-training-pants?" :) :) :)
