How to purchase JR Railpass for regular price?
Hi folks,
I want to purchase 2 ordinary Adult JR Railpasses (7-day), and the price listed is 28300 Yen on the JR site. The problem is that I can't seem to find where I can purchase for that price in the US. Sure, they are expensive already, but my local travel agency specializing in Japan travel wants to add a 20% markup -- thus pushing the price to 34000 Yen apeice. Does anybody have experience with how to bypass the middleman on this one, and obtain the pass for the "JR advertised" price? |
You can get exchange orders here at the regular price:
http://www.japanrailpass.net/eng/en005.html In my experience, they are very prompt... Good luck! -R |
You can visit any of the offices listed in the previous poster's link. Many will also permit you to order by phone. Here is a link for online ordering - near the bottom of the page.

Got'em
I ordered from JTB Chicago office, very prompt and professional service. For 2 ordinary passes: 2 x 28300 Yen (2 x $255USD) + $10 3-day shipping (for both). Today's interbank USD rate is 114 Yen, they sold to me at 111 Yen, not too bad.
Thanks for the info! |
