hotels with a kitchen in Tokyo
 

hey I am going to Tokyo for a month and a half this fall, does anyone know where I can get a hotel room with a kitchen?

Get a serviced apartment. Several references in this forum that a cursory search will reveal, but in a nutshell, Oakwood, Asahi Homes, or the best of the best, Mori Living (http://www.moriliving.com/sa/index.html.en) are all good possibilities.

There are also cheaper serviced apartments, including one that I recall that across from the Grand Hyatt and within hollering distance of the Mori units. These also come with a kitchen -- although you will be amazed at how they squeeze everything in (sinks overlapping bathtubs, stuff like that). However, like most accomodation in Japan, they will still be squeaky clean when you check in.

I have to admit that I like the location of the Azabu Juban Oakwood units best of the ones I have seen even though there may be more luxurious apartments elsewhere. Note that this location is very popular and is often booked months in advance.

I was looking for a Residence Inn and found this Marriott property. Don't know anything about it - but it's worth a look.

Try to find a place that's close to a department store with a good "food basement". The take-out in Japan in these food basements is wonderful. Robyn

Depends on your budget. The Oakwoods and Residence Inns are the high end, and on the low end are the "gaijin houses," where students and young English teachers rent rooms and share kitchens in sometimes squalid conditions.
In the middle are the Tokyu Stays, which charge about 9,000 yen for a single night, with the price going down the longer you stay. They include a full bath, a kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, cooktop, and microwave, a washer-dryer, and a broadband Internet connection. There's maid service once a week.
Some don't like the Tokyu Stays because they don't allow you to bring visitors to the room, but that's not a problem with me.

This is part of the Mori Atago Green Hills complex, so it is a Mori property. Mori properties are quite nice, but too expensive by 30-50% for what you get. You can do much better price/value at somewhere like the Oakwoods.

You might also try Tokyu Stay depending on your needs. Multiple locations + fairly cheap, but the mini-kitchen is definitely mini.
