Going wireless on Narita Express
|
This is an excellent showcase for 3G if the service proves reliable.
I suppose the service is of more interest to foreign businesspeople with laptops (the target market in NEX green cars) than to Japanese people who favor i-mode and can get 3G equipment for themselves. |
I read a review by several people in a Japanese paper, all claiming it to be quite fast. I haven't tried it myself, though.
Please also note that the airport is also offering free wireless LAN at both terminals. I tried it and both worked just fine. |
I noticed that the Wireless LAN offer at Narita is continuing, free of charge, through 31/3/2003.
I tried to connect to it last week. I could "see" two WLANs, one looked to be WEP-enabled, but I tried everything to connect without success. Any tips? (I did try an ad-hoc setting, more of a peer-to-peer set-up, and was able to 'connect' in a sort of fashion. Basically Windows2000 was telling me that neither my wired nor wireless adapter was 'connected'. (I trudged over to the SQ lounge, where I unplugged one of their desktops' LAN connection and plugged my laptop in. At least that worked! |
