Nice night

Quite a pleasant evening for late July in Tokyo.

It was ? It will be much less pleasant when the powers that be cut down the remaining trees. Noticed they are cutting down the quite a few of the cherry trees in Aoyama Cemetery.

I wonder if they are diseased or just end of life?

I counted at least 5 stumps on my walk through the botchi . Personally , I don't trust the city about the reasons for cutting them down. They should replace every cut down tree with 5 new ones as far as I am concerned.

I also wanted to add that Tokyo is hotter than it has ever been. The pre-disposition is to cut/mow down greenery that gets in the way of development. They will start cutting down the trees in the Gaien area in August. When the redevelopment of the public green areas is complete they will have cut down 3,000 mature canopy type of trees. The public tennis courts and playing fields will be replaced by 2 mixed use towers , a hotel , an 80,000 seat baseball stadium and an indoor mixed use rugby stadium with 15,000 seats. All this will be built along side a mostly un-used olympic stadium of which the pine tree'd forested grounds were concreted over.

So what used to be free public space was sold to developers and much of what is being built will cost money to use? Do cities/ku use the profit from such sales to shore up shortfalls in taxes for maintaining infrastructure or something else which benefits residents?

Are some of the trees the kind which cause bad allergies? https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/1...0less%20pollen.

The above video will give you a good idea of what Itochu/Mitsui-Fudosan and Gaien Commission/Shinjuku/Minato have planned. 34c today with a nice wind.
