Spring (ugh) for a Spring Drive GS model. Some of the dials are absolutely fantastic, like the blue snowflake and some of the limited edtions.

Did you end up buying one? I was really tempted when I went early this month. Weaker yen and no-tax, Japan is definitely the place to look for watches.

Purchased a Skyflake from Takashimaya last month. Also spotted some at Mitsukoshi. High end department stores usually carry Grand Seikos. We also stopped by the main store in Ginza, but didn’t find anything we liked.

Not about the buying of GS but I just popped by the Seiko museum and found out there's a new GS floor on the 6th

Not about the buying of GS or the museum, but it always bothered me that the Grand Seiko logo used some kind of Old English typeface, Then I found this, and it still bothers me, but a little less than it did:

https://youtu.be/uY1B8lNFi-c?si=-tDtI89DNozO1dT4 I liked when GS had the Seiko wordmark positioned most prominently. It was a very Japanese approach, sort of the watch equivalent of the Toyota Century which is Rolls-Royce like but still carries the Toyota name. Creating a separate luxury brand feels like caving in to American sensibilities. |
