Odaiba (お台場)

Happy New Year, everyvody.

Nobody posted here, but possible that Odaiba is heading to the direction of redevelopment. Shinagawa went through redevelopment on the west side of the station and next is the east side of the station including Keikyu Shinagawa station. Shibuya is currently undergoing major redevelopment. Shinjuku will undergo immediate west side of the station, Odakyu and Keio department store area. Then some rumor about Ikebukuro undergoing redevelopment. Looks like the trend now at Tokyo is redevelopment, or called Saikaihatsu (再開発).

At Odaiba, it started as the closure of Oedo Onsen Monogatari past September. Then the announcement of the gradual closure of the Palette Town at Odaiba. MEGA WEB, Toyota's interactive theme park, has closed on Dec. 31. Zepp Tokyo, live concert facility, closed on Jan. 1. VenusFort shopping center is scheduled to close on March 27 this year. Then on August 31 the Ferris wheel and Mori Building Digital Art Museum will close.

The news indicated multipurpose arena will be built where the Palette Town is today. No news about DECK Tokyo Beach and Aqua City located at another side of Odaiba next to Fuji TV. DECK Tokyo Beach and Aqua City will operate as is...?

I am a little surprised Odaiba's being redeveloped even with Oedo Onsen not being able to renew their lease. Are nearby facilities also subject to a max lease of 20 years "Act on Land and Business Leases"? Is it really considered that dated or poorly utilized?

I noticed Muji opened one of their larger locations at Ariake next to (newer?) Ariake Garden mall. Looks like a new Villa Fontaine & Daiwa Roynet around that area, too.

Hi,

Happy New Year to all!.

That is some redevelopment. Always enjoyed my trips to Odaiba especially the views across the bay with the Rainbow Bridge and tokyo tower lit up. Enjoyed the shopping malls esp with the winter illuminations and the views from the Fuji TV studio observation deck ( is that remaining open?)

Regards

Meh , good riddance ! Time to put a AEON Super Centre and Costco there so us inner city dwellers can access easier. :D

Megaweb, Palette Town, Venus Fort etc. are all owned by Toyota (in partnership with someone I've forgotten), and they're redeveloping the whole property. Everything was getting kind of old. I haven't heard of any other major redevlopment though, other than the rather underwhelming Ariake Garden.

Yeah who is that other party? ;)

I’ll miss Oedo Onsen. Great memories there despite how kitschy it was. The rest of that crap not so much. Venus Fort being a poor knock off of the Caesar’s Palace forums in Vegas was particularly depressing.

Toyota and whomever ;) should sell to Oriental Land and let them build a Disney 3 resort........with a Costco nearby..:D

Yeah, Venus Fort was always creepily empty when we would visit compared to on the other side of Odaiba where the Decks/Aqua City area was jumping. The two things I miss most from Odaiba are the GIANT arcade where the Digital Art museum now is and the old Muscle Park where the Legoland Discovery Center now is. I get it, change, but I'm not good with change!!!

Do agree a Costco would be nice. How about a Tokyo USJ? ;)

In reality, pretty sure we will get more high rise housing, assuming they rezone it. Are there even any schools over there on the island for the population dense family targeted housing?

There are a couple (and quite a few more kindergarten). Odaiba Gakuen was the first “big” school my daughter got to see more or less “up close” on a walk around Odaiba Beach. It’s built in that style which is unmistakeable to anyone who watches anime or reads manga.

That's a good guess. Should be fun to live there during the liquefaction and tsunami that's pretty likely during the Next Big One.

That's a lot of re-developments going on! Might as well, boost the economy with infrastructure build.
Like the idea of having Costco on Odaiba!

EDIT: looks like the oedo onsen monogatari (urayasu) I found on google is different than the one on odaiba, does anyone know if is similar inside to the Odaiba version? https://urayasu.ooedoonsen.jp/

Urayasu location is in Chiba https://urayasu.ooedoonsen.jp/access/#access-train Same Resort group as the one which was in Odaiba https://www.ooedoonsen.jp/facilities/search.php
