19 hour layover in NRT
Hi all, I recently bought a ticket on JAL from SFO to TPE, and layover in NRT. Originally the layover in NRT would be 3 hours but I was just notified that the original flight from NRT to TPE got canceled, and the only flight available is the next day, which now gives me a 19 hour layover.
So I can't enter Japan to stay at a hotel, and the JAL lounge closes after 10pm, and I think the NRT's capsule hotel is outside of border control. Are there any other options I can do beside just crashing from on an airport bleacher overnight? Thanks in advance. |
There are no overnight layovers allowed at NRT without entering Japan. Because of corona, tourists cannot enter, so the answer is it won't work.
https://www.ana.co.jp/asw/topinfo/in...fo_tool_flag=1 On the other hand, it might be possible at Haneda, the other Tokyo airport. You need to check with your carrier. |

I think you cannot stay in NRT overnight. I looked last year when connections were hard.
I think you can ask in another forum about help getting to TPE (though I am unclear if you are going or coming from TPE) as options are probably quite limited. |
Hi All - Thanks for the answers, yeah NRT doesn't allow overnight, and now my flight has been canceled. Gonna have to look for other ways, thank you!

I assume that’s what happened - a segment was cancelled and JAL cancelled your entire ticket because the only available connection included a now invalid (due to immigration policy changes re COVID) layover at Narita. |
Has the OP looked for alternative flights through HND on JAL or other carriers? If there are such possibilities, JAL should have rebooked (for free) rather than cancelling the ticket.

Maybe a cost thing? I see EVA is still flying to NA last I checked.

Yeah, but my point is that if the OP could have been rerouted through HND rather than NRT, that should hav happened rather than having the ticket cancelled. Beyond that, OP needs to check various available alternatives and make a decision.

Are overnight layovers at HND allowed? I am thinking of doing JFK-HND on NH and HND-TSA on BR, with the flights on two separate PNRs.

best would be just 1 overnight believe transit hotel still closed (website unchanged)< and lounge still not operating overnight https://www.the-royalpark.jp/the/tok...de=view&id=126 |
Thanks. It'll just be a 13 hour overnight layover, but it doesn't sound too appealing with no lounge or transit hotel. I will look at other ways to get to Taiwan.

ua has jfk-sfo-tpe. $1k economy unfortunately but i think the SFO-TPE load is relatively low, so you probably can get a whole row to yourself to lay flat. Could also get a $1k buy up for J per leg (ymmv). You have to suffer on the domestic leg(likely crowded) It's also Basic Economy. +$80 for non BE, which gives you flexibility to change at any time (with fare differences). Can't help you with mileage accural though, only 50% i believe or jfk-lax-tpe via Alaska and SQ. Alaska miles won't accure on ana, but SQ R will at 100%. $1800 |
