Does anyone know if you can renew your US Costco Executive Membership in Japan at the warehouse?

My Costco executive membership is due to expire in September, and in the past I've renewed it in warehouse in Calgary (paying the CAD rate, and with less tax) to save a few bucks. I think the executive membership price is even lower in Japan given the exchange rate. ~$US50 vs US$120 in the USA.

And to update, Costco Japan no longer participates in the VAT refund scheme for tourists, right? Does anyone know if they accept shop cards?

ETA: Ah, I get the question now for the currency strength advantage? Perhaps a location near a US base would be a bit familiar with the process if it exists?

Costco US allows membership renewal on US costco.com
Looks like CA also has an online auto-renewal option? https://www.costco.ca/auto-renew.html

My bix exec is about ¥10,000, so $62

which Costco's are near US bases? I have a Japan Rail pass, and have 3 kids in tow. The Costco in Gifu is near a Shinkansen stop, and was thinking about making it a day stop on our way from Osaka to Tokyo

Yes, Costco is sorta quirky with how the membership works. I believe the membership number is global. It was super easy to renew at a Canada Costco for CAD$120 vs USD$120 (in the US). Do Costco Japan shoppers scan their US costco cards in Japan at check-out?

I am able to have both a costco.com (USA) and costco.ca online account. However costco.ca requires a bank account at a larger Canadian bank for id verification.

I spend most of my time in Vancouver, Canada, but still use my US Costco card without any issues. I receive my 2% dividend check in USD. I assume that when I shop in Canada, the rate is converted back to USD for my 2% rebate check.

Hiroshima Costco is within walking distance from the station. There is a base not too far from there in Iwakuni.

The new location in Minami-Alps is news to me. Thanks for that. I've been mulling a future relocation to Kofu in the coming years, and the availability of Costco nearby certainly wouldn't hurt.

I've always thought that membership can only be renewed in the home country, and I've tried and failed to renewed my US Costco membership in Taiwan. Perhaps there are some special agreements between the US and Canadian Costcos, as they allow executive membership rebates to work across border as well.

I was able to renew my US membership in Canada, charged the same price in CAN$, saving me about 35%. The only data point I could think of is my membership had expired and it was automatically added to my tab at check-out. I don't see how Japan would be different if you expired and tried to check out.

You can only renew your Costco Membership if it's within 3 months of expiry. Did you attempt to renew your US Costco membership in Taiwan at the membership desk? Or online? or at checkout (with an expired costco card)? Thanks for the Datapoint on Taiwan Costco.

Oh that's really interesting. Our US membership was just renewed, but perhaps I should give it a try in the Vancouver BC Costco next year.

I tried at the membership desk with an expiring (< 1 month) card, and was told that membership can only be renewed at its home country.

Just checking for confirmation - there is no tax refund or tax free price for electronics goods purchased at Costco in Japan?

We’re looking for a tax free place to buy two M4 MacBook Air 15s in a few weeks depending on the yen within a reasonable distance from Narita city.

I'm going to to the Makuhari warehouse next month by taking the Keiyo line. Am I allowed to bring a suitcase with me inside the store, so that I have a mean to carry the stuff back to my hotel? I see some warehouses ask you to store the suitcase in the coin locker, but I'm not sure if there is one at the Makuhari warehouse. Or maybe I will be asked to store it at the membership service desk?

Any insights welcome. Thanks!
