"The decision (to request a change of venue)...was made after IOC President Thomas Bach saw television scenes of runners collapsing in extreme heat in the marathons at the world track and field championships in Doha, Qatar....Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, who angrily opposed the move in a head-on feud with the IOC, said Friday she would accept it."

The Olympic torch relay will start in Fukushima (on 26 March) and will end in Tokyo.

It will reach central Japan in early April, coinciding with the cherry blossom season.
It will travel through all of Japan's prefectures.

The recruitment period for torchbearers has ended. No one in my family applied for it.

The English language website states that the goal was to: "ensure that a wide range of people are represented including nationalities, people with or without impairments, gender and age groups".

The torch relay will provide people with a chance to participate for free, by watching from the roadway, in an Olympic activity.

We already booked flights to Sapporo and reserved hotel in Sapporo for four nights during Olympic period. I even got communication from hotel to confirm the bed setting in room weeks ago. Now with Marathon to Sapporo, I saw the hotel I booked already blocked all the dates during Olympic period. I wonder if the hotel can cancel my confirmed reservation due to Olympic? Any experience? TIA

I really doubt it, especially if you booked directly with the hotel.
Just make sure you hold onto the confirmation number/email.

If you're worried, you can always contact the hotel to make sure.

Wow, tons of tickets available now!
They even have men's football gold medal final!
Although I have no interest, archery is very cheap... as low as $30's per ticket.
Thank you so much Klarity7 for your updates!

My company is an official sponsor, so we got a few spots in the relay.... I wasn't one of the lucky ones though.

Don't know if you noticed but if you're willing to shell out the $$$$$ for a package meal/event, you can get tickets to just about any event on Cosport.

Thanks for the heads up. Picked up some tickets for volleyball. Actually, there are a lot of tickets, including track & field and basketball, available on the US Cosport site. I may buy a few more.
