Earthquake in Osaka

I case you haven't heard, had a large earthquake in Osaka at about 8:00 am this morning. I live in area nearby. All trains in greater Osaka area are stopped, including shinkansen. Haven't heard reports of major damage yet. Quite the shake at my house. Some of my friends are stuck on trains in the middle of the tracks.

Our house jumped around.

No damage to our home other than a few things falling down. We have no gas but still have electricity and internet.

Our friends in Takatsuki and Minoh have no water or gas. Water main has burst.

Very rare to feel an earthquake in Kansai area. Today's was quite a jolt, though of course '95 was much more massive. Tokyo seems to get mild ones often, but down here it's quite uncommon.

Unfortunately some people died due to damages caused by the earthquake, as reported by CBC (At least 3 dead, dozens hurt after earthquake hits Japan | CBC News). Measured 6.1 on the scale. Hope everyone is safe and sound around Osaka.

Wishing the best for the well-being of all FTers in the Kansai area.

This is on our news in California. Thanks for the personal updates and praying that the damage to lives and property is limited. Take care.

I hope most people are safe. It is sad to hear of deaths and we know it lies on a very high risk area but it is so beautiful to visit.
We are also concerned as we have tickets to go next week and do not know if the area is open for visitors.
I have not been able to contact the Ryokans

Where are your ryokans?
Have you contacted them and not received a response?
Or do you mean that you have not been able to contact them - perhaps because you do not have an email address?

Certain areas, particularly in Northern Osaka, are affected more than others. These include Takatsuki, Minoo, Ibaraki city, Settsu and Suita.

The Osaka area has been told to expect further earthquakes within the next week, with the warning that the coming earthquake may well dwarf this one.
If you have actually contacted your lodgings but received no response to reassure you, this might be the time to reevaluate your itinerary.

While there are a lot of guessing on what it may mean, and predictions of where the next earthquake might come, it is pretty much business as usual by now in Japan Except a few areas very close to the epicentre, you are not going to see any indication of the quake having happened when travelling in the Kansai area. While your accommodations may be very busy answering queries from people with bookings, and thus taking longer time to answer, they are extremely unlikely to have had a negative effect on their operations.
