There are a ton of high-end restaurants with plenty of non-seafood options. You should certainly tell them that you have a seafood allergy when you make your reservation and when you order.

Not a dumb question at all. We are all learning from each other.

Are you aware that certain restaurants specialize in Wagyu Beef, and the Kobe Beef variant. Im not a beef eater, so cant help you with a recommendation, but Ive seen these selections in many restaurants that happily serve me seafood.

Does you wife only not like seafood she can see? There is dashi (fish stock) in an immense amount of Japanese food so that is pretty limiting.

As for recommendations, I think you'd be safe with 747FC 's recommendation of teppanyaki. There are a ton of options in all three cities at a huge variety of price points. You do usually get what you pay for with higher price points offering more luxury cuts and higher grades of wagyu.

We did not see (and admittedly were not looking for) substitutions on any menus but the advice I was given was that most places do not like to sub or change their menu.

If you decide you are indeed after a teppanyaki meal I highly recommend Yamato at the top of Mikasa Kaikan in Ginza. Excellent value, too, at lunch.

Has anyone been to Narisawa recently? I've heard it's fallen off but I made a reso for the end of the month anyways.

In my experience it was never good enough to fall off. Some folks love it, although I havent met them and they are usually Michelin inspectors or food writers.

Id definitely spend my yen elsewhere.

So I was looking at Sazenka and the courses they list on their website range from 38000 to 90000 yen. Tableall offers at 205,000 yen special course, does anyone know what this is?

We will be in the area this week and might pop in -- any recommended upgrades over the base 10k for dinner?

It's hard to go wrong. One of the things I like about Yamato is that the "base" menus are always exceptional. It's not trying to be an upgrade factory. I don't think I can remember a bad bite, but I do love the menus that include bread--strategically timed to land in front of you after a sauced seafood course to mop up the remaining deliciousness.

Great to hear -- we were looking at the seasonal menu and there were so many beef / fish upgrades to choose from! We may stop by later this week after my wifes doctor's appointment in Ginza. Thanks again! With the yen so weak it's like everything is 30% off!

I'm not meant to make a reservation at Den. The first time I tried, I called over 100+ times, got placed on a waitlist and never got confirmed. For this second trip, I made a note on their holidays, but now that I check back their holidays shifted a day, so they're going to be closed and two months from then is the date that I would like to get a reservation to eat dinner there. how do I make a reservation for two months from that date if they aren't picking up the phone for reservations two months before? Do I call them after or before that closed date? The stars aren't aligning at all over and over again.

No restaurant is worth that much effort to secure a reservation, IMO.

The nice thing about Tokyo is that, for every restaurant that's impossible to book, there are at least ten that are easy to book and just as good.

Part of the fun in my opinion.
You'll make it there one day and it will be great.

There are restaurants I've been attempting to book for a long time that don't work out due to scheduling or other reasons, eventually I get a booking and it's very satisfying when you can actually go. So keep trying, but also accept it might be next trip, or maybe next year.

Japanese restaurants are pretty big on loyalty and I believe Den is no exception so the first booking is usually the toughest.

I think this is correct all the way through. Well said.

Den is a weird restaurantpart of its allure to me. Its easily my favorite restaurant in the entire world, but I can name 20 other spots where the food is actually better.

Keep trying or maybe PM me for a tip to help you out on your hajj.
