Any recs for bento/snacks for a Domestic JAL (S) flight from HND?
Will be taking my first intra Japan flights (HND-OKA) this April with an 8 year old and my father-in-law.
Our flight out is at 8:50am on a Tuesday, so I'll be looking to pick up something light to eat on board - as much for entertainment as for sustenance.
Have never been to the HND domestic terminal before, and as I'm not alone, I won't really have a chance to go explore.
Does anyone have any recommendations of where I can pick something up at at 8:15am or so, particularly something interesting, tasty and decent value for money?
For the return, the Kuko Shotokan (Airport Restaurant) landside arrivals hall at OKA seems to tick the right boxes, but I'm also open to ideas. (Will be getting the shuttle to the monorail leaving the Senagajima Hotel at 3pm and our flight returning to HND is at 4:30pm on a Saturday, so I'm assuming that gives enough time)

I would probably pick up an Ekiben from the closest larger train station you are departing to Haneda from, either Shinagawa or Tokyo Station on the way to the airport...the ekiban stands will have the most interesting boxes and entree options vs trying to find something at the airport.

Selection of bento at Soraben Kobo.- T1 2nd Floor Lobby
https://www.tokyo-airport-bldg.co.jp...ants/store/92/
Chirashi style boxes seem to be highly rated on Tabelog - but there's a wide selection if those aren't to your taste.

Airside pickings are less attractive. A sandwich from the airside cafes etc. fills a hole but doesn't provide something "interesting" IME.

jib71 - LapGirl has been drooling over the Tabelog photos of the Soraben Kobo. MrLapLap was concerned that the bento with lots of ikura might be more vinegary than she'd expect, but she's certainly up for giving it a go. It certainly the kind of food that appeals to her and that she rarely has in the UK.
bocastephen - getting to the Ekiben shops at 7am from the Takanawa entrance at Shinagawa with our bags before boarding the train to HND is too risky. Someone is going to wind up feeling stressed. Odds of this venture not making someone angry or irritated will be better if our luggage has been checked in. High likelihood that nobody will have had breakfast.

I remember there are some gyutan or other beef options in the store. The problem would just then be too many options. I can treat the landside corridor opposite the checkin desks as a train station. Except there are less combinis

My vote go for buying Soraben at Haneda, no point of buying Ekiben at a train station before getting to the airport. Yes, shopping area before the security has more choices by I found Soraben selection after the security to be fine for me. Usual Makunoushi (幕の内) type bento, find good selection of meat type of Bento. Also there are selections of sandwich, including Katsu Sando (カツサンド). On evening flights I often buy Soraben at gate area of Haneda airport and take it to my destination when at the time of arrival it is late at night,
On OKA flights on JL they sell ice cream for 300 yen. Also, for you and your hubby OKA flights sell Okinawa beer (Aoi Sora to Umi and Orion) for 500 yen which comes with small bag of rice cracker or other type of snack.

I looked through various options on HND website where you can narrow shops down by terminal, airside/landside, takeout available, etc. Lot of different options, but ultimately I think the best one is Jibs' Soraben Kobo.-
There's also a place called Matakoiya which has very good Tabelog ratings and is supposed to be an offshoot of Tsukiji sushi place; they have take-out items (eel oshizushi, chirashi-don). But I'd still go with Jib's place.
I don't think I would buy bento at Shinagawa station for this purpose. Kind of a pain to have to deal with carrying one more item to the airport, not to mention I don't remember many places being open in Ecute when I was there early a couple months ago (don't remember what time, though).

Have a question about beer on JL OKA flights.
Obviously ruling out alcohol on the outbound flight so thinking about the return.
OLap will be cracking open a brew or two, but my query is if there is anything to drink that ISN'T lager. I enjoy beer, just hate lager - intensely.
Anything I should be keeping my eye out for in Okinawa, on land or up high?
One thing I'm definitely learning in this thread is to keep my expectations in check. I was imagining a SoraBen wonderland reflecting the airlines' domestic route networks. Seems that a surfeit of choice isn't going to be an issue.
I hadn't thought of Tabelog for bento at Haneda. More I look at it, SoraBen Koubo is definitely filling the "interesting" remit. I'll ask the LapClan elder to ensure that LapGirl doesn't get anything too vinegary. Failing that, Matakoiya should be able to put together an assortment, so will keep that in mind as a back up. Thanks evergreen!

This seems to be part of the line up from jib71's suggested store:

The best (IMHO) snack with your drink is umi budo - a kind of seaweed that resembles grapes. Also, while you're there, you should enjoy Okinawan noodles and live music. Shurei Soba is supposed to offer both- call ahead to make sure:

Thanks, jib71! Am already a big fan of Awamori. Will look out for Nihede.
I wasn't clear, but it was beer recommendations I was really after (appreciate your suggestions though!). I find the packaging and advertising for beer impenetrable - have literally no idea what I'm looking at.
LapGirl is keen to sample mozuku as well as umi budo as she has a real love affair with seaweed. She saw a BBC documentary on Japan showing how underwater fields of mozuku were harvested with vacuum hoses and she was sold.

Looks like the brewery that produced Nihede has replaced it with Sango beer. Not sure why they retired the Nihede brand but ...

Anyways, yeah just stick to Jib's place as the primary option.
