G7 Summit!
Get ready for G7 Summit! The Summit will be held at Kashikoshima, Mie but there are increased visible uniform police presence in Tokyo area. Some disruptions expected area:
Kintetsu Railway, Shima Line Starting first train on May 21 to 7 a.m. on May 28 there will be no service between Ukata – Kashikoshima. Mie Kotsu Bus No service between Ukata station – Kashikoshima station during same period as Kintetsu Railways. Ago Bay Cruise service No service between Goza – Kashikoshima during same period as Kintetsu Railway There will be shuttle bus service between Kashikoshima station and Ukata station. However, if you are not attending the summit the access around the area will be servilely limited during the summit. President Obama is expected to visit Hiroshima on May 27. Area including Hiroshima station will be under traffic restriction and especially the Peace Park and surrounding area will have very limited public access on May 27. Beside that, enjoy your visit to Japan! |
There have been announcements at Shinjuku Station (repeated frequently in English too) that station coin lockers can't be used on May 26-27 for security reasons. I believe the same is the case at other stations/cities as well in connection with the G7 Summit. Something to keep in mind if anybody was planning on using coin lockers on those dates.

I noticed today that the trash cans on the platform of Hankyu Sannomiya station were sealed off. Sannomiya! We're nowhere near the summit site and I really doubt that any of the participants are going to take a local train to Kobe. Unless it was for some other reason that I'm not aware of.

Added information:
Shima Spain Village (entire facilities) closed from May 21 to May 28 Shima Marineland (aquarium) closed form May 21 to May 28 Hotel Kintetsu Aquavilla closed from May 23 to May 28 Obviously, Shima Resort Hotel where the meeting of head of states will take place is off to public. |
Obama’s Air Force One has stopped at Yokota Air Force Base for refueling on the way to Vietnam on 22nd.
Obama will fly from Vietnam to Japan on 25th, landing at Nagoya Central Airport. I am sure Obama will not be the only head of the state using Nagoya Central Airport this week. Observation deck will be closed at Nagoya Central Airport on 25th, and high alert is already in effect at Nagoya Central Airport. If flying in/out of Nagoya Central Airport on 25th, then expect some possible delay. |
Keep watch for...

Something is happening. Since the start of 2016, my local Yoshinoya, KFC, and Mister Donut, all of which have been around for over 10 years, have all shut down.
Abe goes to this meeting trying to coordinate a firewall against a global economic crisis...and his peers laugh it off. http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKCN0YI03R Next week he will apparently announce a two year delay in raising sales tax...that he promised would never be delayed. Winter is coming. |
