Google translate "English computer Akihabara" = "英語コンピューター秋葉原"

Google search "英語コンピューター秋葉原" :

"English OS Toshiba Satellite 「C55D-A5304」15.6″ Laptop Notebook Windows 8.1" 49,800円(Without Tax)

英語版OSモデルPCの圧倒的なボリュームに留学生・研修生・赴任者も大満足!

"English OS model PC overwhelming volume to foreign students, trainees, expatriates also a big satisfaction!"

Better (?) is to search for 「英語版」("english version") and something like 『ノート」("notebook") or 「ノートパソコン」("notebook computer"). Although sometimes they can be listed in english as "english os" or "english version" on some sites.

Thanks for everybody's help.

Today we went to a few duty free shops in the Osaka area. Ironically, what laptops they have, it is geared for the Chinese market.

Been telephoning a few places in Akihabara, they do sell international versions of Toshiba however they are all the very low end editions at an inflated price.

It looks like it is going to be amazon.ca which does international shipping.

This has been quite an interesting experience.

Update, amazon.ca does NOT do international shipping if the item is located in the USA.

I am going to ship it to my home in Canada then get somebody to ship it to me here in Japan.

It will cost more in shipping but I will get what I am want this way.

I used to receive PCs from the US HQ of my company occasionally. A couple of times, the PC was held up by Japanese customs - incurring additional expense and delay.

Any reason you don't use Amazon Japan?

Can you try buy a dell on their japanese site and select US keyboard layout / US Windows as a workaround??? I tried check on their website and you can get one with XPS 13...

The option is not available on all model but are certainly avaliable

Yes, there are a few specialty online stores in Japan that convert Japanese laptops for overseas customers. But it's a niche market for enthusiasts and the products are priced accordingly.

Switching out keyboard on a laptop may or may not be a trivial process, depending on model - I have done it for warranty purpose with a Dell.

Different inventory.

The laptops are for domestic market, thus the funny keyboard.

Yeah, I know but I have owned Toshiba's for the past couple of decades.

Transferring data from one Toshiba to another is really painless and seamless.

No! Have a look, there dozens of laptops from most of the major manufacturers with US keyboards. Search "laptop us keyboard"

You'd be surprised what you can find on Amazon Japan. They're very much targeting the expat community here.

We've told you how to search for them. We can't do the ordering for you, too.

Hey, look, 40 *english version* toshibas come up when searching for "英語版 toshiba" on amazon japan...

Yeah, I think this is a "we can lead the horse to water, but we can't make him drink" situation :)
