I wish I had one. Tis one ultimately came down to pure luck. I found the shop online and called at the right time, they were nice enough to hold the bottles for me and ship them across the country.
That being said, any money I saved on these bottles I no doubt spent in time hunting down dozens of other fruitless leads

Yamazaki NAS for Yen 4,100 at Yamaya in Ginza (behind Sapporo Beer Hall/Ginza 6) - about the cheapest I've seen in months - 6 bottles or so, behind the counter. Also Nikka From The Cask - Yen 2,100, here also superb price - as Sake no Sokuhai has it for Yen 3,800.
Fuji Gotemba 18 years and Fuji Gotemba Wine cask also coming onto the market - Yen 24,000-29,000 - Has anyone tried the Wine cask?
Popped by Hasegawa Honten under Tokyo station - a good stock from Karuizawa (Yen 598,000!, last seen a year months ago in Sake no Sukuhai for 298,000), and Hibiki but quite steep prices - NAS (9K), 17Y (39k) 21Y (68k) and 30 year (498k)...

Hasegawa has been a tourist trap for many years now with terrible prices.

I'll be in Tokyo/Osaka for about 2 weeks and planning on picking up a bottle or two of Whisky to enjoy back in the US. I've been out of the Whisky game for so long and I want to get back into it since I'll be in Japan.
What should I pick up while I'm in Japan for under $200 USD?
I would love to be able to pick up a bottle of H12, H18, Y12, and Y18 but judging from what I've been reading, that's highly unlikely.

Thoughts on the Hibiki Master Select?

The Fuji Sanroku Signature Blend (50d, non-chill) launched a few months ago would be a good buy at around Yen 5200, discounted to around Yen 4,800. A superb blend by the Kirin Gotenba distillery, and their master blender.

Shinanoya behind Ginza 6 in Ginza, had ten bottles of NAS behind the counter for less than Yen 5000. Any aged bottles are market prices as have been well documented above.

How does buying alcohol outside of duty-free work? I have never done this before!

Sorry for double post, the link didn't paste for my message earlier. Was this the location you were talking about?
