After some hunting, found the Hibiki 17 Year Old in a back street Liquor Shop in Kyoto for 15,800 Yen... The Gold labeled one.
Same shop has the Yamazaki 12 Year Old and at least one more Hibiki 17 Year Old & 21 Year Old. Will update with prices if I can find the phone pictures.
That Hibiki 30 is a bargain. It sells in stores and at the airport for almost 300,000 yen. I would have picked it up in a heartbeat.

Yes, I now realised that

Although out of my price range and I think I prefer the 17/21 Year Old Hibiki.

There were a few liquor stores in Kyoto (Liquor Mountain) which had the 30 Year Old Still for around 235,000/285,000 yen.

Managed to grab a bottle of Yamazaki 12 for $89 at KL Wines in SF this week. By far the most reasonable price I've seen this side of the pacific.

i will be at nrt in a couple of weeks and have two questions:

1. is hibiki 12 available for purchase at NRT? if so, how much?
2. do they provide those TSA bags at nrt so that you can carry on a liquid and make it through a US connection (i.e., NRT-ORD-MIA)?

thank you!

I did see Hibiki 12 in a few shops in Kyoto, sadly didn't get a price in the photo I have, but the Hibiki 17 was 15,000 yen.

Can you buy non-japanese whisky in HND or NRT? I can't recall but I'd be surprised if you couldn't buy premium versions of johnny walker and similar brands in duty free shops.
