Went to my local Costco this morning, located in South San Francisco, and look what they had on the shelves, Hibiki 12 and 17:

I expect the same will happen this time around too. That's a great price, I paid almost 2x that at NRT just a month ago. And there are NO places that have it in stock locally in my area. |
Jeebus! This is one of the rare times I miss living in California. Out in Virginia, we can only buy liquor in ABC stores at prices above retail. Plus good luck finding any rare whiskies.

I bought 3 bottles of the 17. Enjoying it now with a cigar. Life is good.

Which Costco? There are two in South San Francisco

Thanks Kyee.
I found around 100 bottles at the Soma location too. What an amazing deal. |
Yes, the going market price (if you can even find it) is much higher than that.
Now if they get some of the 21yr in stock, my wallet will be in trouble... |
If each Costco has that much in stock, I wonder how much they bought from Suntory in total? that must be a significant percentage of their available stock that they purchased.

I also saw these prices and availability as well.
I can also say that the Takashimaya in Nihombashi had some of the same Hibiki.

Alright, I passed through NRT two days ago, and here are the official prices for the limited edition bottles:
Hibiki 21 - 50,000 Hibiki 17 - 20,000 Hibiki 12 - 10,000 Yamazaki 18 - 250,000 Yamazaki 25 - 500,000 (sold out everywhere) Hakushu 25 - 250,000 Hakushu 18 - 50,000 However, I was extremely surprised to see Nikka 21 Taketsuru priced at 6,000. I'm going to pick up two bottles on my way back home at that price! I tried the Hibiki 21 on ANA F. It had a bit of a bite to it. Not a fan. |

Interesting article on why some Japanese whisky is becoming rarer and harder to find.

Wow. Wondering how they sourced such a scarce product.
