I love the Coffey Grain. It's not typical of Japanese whisky, though, tending more toward bourbons than Scotches IMHO; it's definitely sweet from the corn in the mash.

I had their 12-year aged Coffey Grain at a bar in Tokyo earlier this year and wish I could track it down somewhere; the age took the edge off the corn and made it a wonderfully balanced spirit. Of course, I thought that was great stuff until I tried the '92 Yamazaki Owner's Cask the bar also had... wow. That was the best stuff I think I've ever had, on any continent.

I was at Haneda last Friday and spotted a couple bottles of Hibiki 17 in the special Japanese cranes design bottle. It was going for 20,000yen at the duty free store. Since my time in Japan was limited and hearing how hard it is to find the 17s, I bit the bullet and picked one up. are people able to regularly find the hibiki 17s now or are they still rare and I should consider myself lucky?

As others have mentioned, there is plenty of overpriced Hibiki and others.. Hibiki 12 for 10k in DF.. but almost half price at BIC.
It isn't anymore, it's 15,000 JPY in Duty free (and was previously 10,000 before September). The 17 is about 6,000 JPY though.

Well I was there last month and I found a few shops that had the non-travel edition 17 and the prices ranged from 10,000 to 12,000. They come in in drips and drabs. But its getting closer to Christmas, so it may be harder to find. The Hibiki 17 yr 50 ML mini's though are always available for 900 yen everywhere, and I buy them as gifts for those who always ask me what a Japanese blended whisky tastes like (usually bundled with a Yamazaki 12 & Hakushu 12 mini).

Am looking through the Haneda shops but was told the Hibiki 17 has sold out. Did have a glass from the JL F lounge though. ^

Only vaguely related, but Costco in Chicago has quite a bit of the Hakushu 12 in stock for $68. Not a steal by any means, but reasonably priced for the area and plenty to go around.

Same prices in Narita as a of a week ago, but the Yamazaki 18 and Hibiki 21 were out of stock. The Hakashu I didn't even see.

It pains me that exactly a year ago, 2014 thanksgiving, I bought a Hibiki 17 for 6000 yen, and at the time, I thought that the Nikka Yoichi 20yr single malt at 15,000 yen was getting too rich for my tastes. If I had a crystal ball, I would have brought a case back with me! I didn't even see the Yoichi at all in any of the stores this time.

Yamazaki 2015 limited edition

Anyone interested in buying a gift wrapped bottle of Yamazaki 2015 limited edition? I will sell for reasonable price (JPY12,500 or USD100) . Received as a gift but I don't drink whiskey, I live near Roppongi Hills and can deliver at Roppongi Hills or anywhere near Roppongi.
cheers,
Charles

Has anyone seen Hibiki 30 lately? And if so, at what price?

Hi all,
I'm in Tokyo tomorrow and have a day for souvenir shopping.
Is it worth waiting to Duty Free at Narita to try and find some Yamazaki or Hakushu aged single malt?

Or there somewhere in Tokyo that isn't extortionate that I can try?

Thanks in advance
J
