The same Shinanoya also had a Taketsuru 21 for ¥29000 when I visited on Saturday, but it was already purchased by the time I went back to pick it up on Monday. Sigh.
I scored couple bottles of T17 online for Y14,000 shipped just couple months ago for my buddy. I thought it was overpriced at that price.... I miss those days that it was Y3500 at DF and T21 was Y6000 before 10% discount using United CC. Glad I still have 6 bottles I bought back then.
I wonder how that Fuji Sanroku 18 LE compares to regular 18 yr old small batch. I passed on them multiple times since I can get the 18 small batch for around Y20,000.

As promised here are a few stock and price shots from around Tokyo. I was going to transcribe some but got lazy, so here you go.

Donki Shinjuku Kabuchiko

Liquor Mountain Shinjuku

(Saturday Oct 5)

(Monday Oct 7-- T21 already nabbed by another patron before me)

Liquor Mountain Ginza 777

Shortly after I took this photo another patron grabbed that last bottle of FTB.

Imagine some Japanese fellow thinking that Toki was something special and spending ¥12000 on it...

Liquor Express Ginza

Liquors Hasegawa

Liquors Hasegawa North Exit

I was tempted to grab the Ichiro MWR + Yamazakura bundle for ¥12980 but if im being honest with myself i'm not a fan of MWR's palate. The Komagatake LE 2019 can be had cheaper at Shinanoya if you're interested in it.

Donki Ikebukuro

Finally, something interesting. Don't see these bottles every day.

Mega Donki Shibuya

Hope this helps anyone looking for bottles in Tokyo within the near future.

The only two bottles I would consider to buy are Mars Redturtle and Nikka from the barrel because those two are the actual MSRP! Others... not so much....

Agreed, really just proves my point it is not even worth it to go to these shops any more unless you are desperate. Could have spend those hours enjoying some rare whiskies at one of the many great whisky bars around town.

Awesome post jashsu

Agreed, it would be really sad for someone to buy the Toki for 12k yen when you can pick it up for $28 in most places around me.

Yeah I was thinking about the Redturtle too, but the young Mars whiskies have not impressed. Passed on the 2019 Komagatake for similar reason. Have you tried it? Being such a limited release you probably aren't going to find paid tasting easily. I suppose for forty bucks its worth just taking the risk.

If you refuse to pay anything above MSRP, does that rule out bars and old bottles?

p.s. plz dm me the deets on that ¥14000 T17 :O

To be fair, Hakushu 12 and Hibiki 17 was cheaper in my local bottle shop (even with ridiculous Australian alcohol tax) than jacked up Tokyo prices.

Last shopping day in Tokyo before Typhoon Hagibis stops everything. Don Quite Asakusa: Yamasaki12 for ¥29,800, Hibiki BC for ¥19,800.. crazy....

Ichiran ramen 1 block from Shibuya crossing was amazing. Faceless workers/ solo booth was interesting.

Ome rice was awesome

Old Tsukiji market. Slipper lobsters, jaw-drop

11 bottles of Yama12.......

Its about to get rough in Tokyo next 24 hours

Man, a year and a half ago I picked up 3 bottles of Hibiki Japanese Harmony for 4500 yen a pop. Now I can't find one for less than 8000...any tips on where to find that it in Tokyo or Nagoya? I saw one poster mentioned they found it for 5500, but all of the other shots show 8500+?

Interesting-looking creatures.
Never seen/heard of slipper lobsters. Looks bizzare. And is the second one fish or crustacean?

5500 is Suntory's current price, so i'd say the possibility of finding it for 4500 in the wild now is approximately ゼロ.
